I've read many of the posts regarding problems that some of you have had with your WK2 Grand Cherokees. To those who posted, thank you for sharing your experiences. I really feel like I know for what to look regarding potential problems with my new Jeep.
I just completed my first short highway road trip in the Jeep and am happy to report that I still haven't had any problems with it at all. Not a single one. The car is beautiful both inside and out, and it drives better than I would have ever expected a 2-1/2 ton car to drive.
I knew going into this that my gas mileage would be abysmal and it is. During local driving in hilly terrain, my average has dropped as low as 11-1/2 miles per gallon, despite my attempts to maximize it. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find out how effective Jeep's Fuel Saver Technology is during the highway road trip. I can't even tell when the cylinder deactivation system kicks in and out. I'd guess that I averaged over 20 miles per gallon. My Jeep now has almost 400 local and highway miles on it, and my cumulative average is 17 miles per gallon. I'm already dreading watching that number plummet as I start accumulating local driving miles again.
Anyway, I wanted to post this for anyone trolling the forum who is considering getting a 2012 Grand Cherokee. Despite all of the problems that have been discussed here, the car is terrific. Mine is exactly for what I was hoping when I ordered it. And, yes, I admit that I typed that while crossing my fingers and knocking on wood.
