Ok guys, I swear I'm not making this up please make sure you're securely seated while reading this.

Droped off my WK2 at the dealership yesterday for some warranty issues. One of them was a obvious mis-alignment between the front fender and driver door panels, where the fender panel sits approximately 1/8" of inch further out then the driver doror panel. See attached picture.

Called in advance today before drving down to pick her up, but was told that they can't or won't repair the mis-alignmnet because "It was purposely built this way to vent engine heat, also it's an aeordynamic feature as per their windtunnel test". I drew a blank didn't know what to think right away but was actually laughing on the way to pick up the WK2.

Sorry I don't wish to disclose the dealership name in a public domain at this time as I plan to take it up with Chrysler Canada. But please feel free to PM me if you're shopping for a Chrysler product in Greater Vancouver area.

What do you all think? Should I request for a copy of the windtunnel test report?

Sadly...that doesn't surprise me LOL.

Yeah show the service manager other WK2s on the lot. Thats preposterous.

I can understand wanting to fix it but is it that noticeable that someone could walk up and be like "Hey, that's misaligned!"?
Nothing on a $40k plus vehicle should be misaligned, bottom line.

All your suggestions are much appreciated. I meant to share my story in a light hearted manner but have basicly gave up on this particular dealership with other outstanding delivery and warranty issues on this vehicle.

To answer your question, no the gap it's not immediately noticable but I can't help myself looking at it now everytime I walk up to the driver door knowing it's there. Furthermore, the dealership acknowledged the misalign exist but I just can't accept their horse crap story about it being a performance enhancing feature.

I was so dissapointed with them that when I arrived at the dealership I only asked for my car key and gave them the heads up that complaints will be filed with Chrysler Canada. Cheers.

Alright cool, that's truly ashame they have such a lack of respect for you as a customer that they would make up a bold lie like that. Good luck with your dealings with Chrysler's Canadian division. :)

I cant stand mis-aligned panels either. From the picture that is a very obvious gap and I would be getting that fixed as well if it were mine.

Their story is pretty hilarious and its incredible that dealerships actually feed people that kind of bullshit. Just to call them out I to would tell them to show me proof that Chrysler intentionally mis-aligns body panels to allow for better engine cooling and aerodynamics. Morons!

Your "trail rated" badge is going to disrupt the airflow... Maybe this is a feature only common to the trail rated models to compensate for the badge

I would ask them to put it in writing. If they ask why, say it is to wipe your butt with.
You have every right to get it fixed and feeding you this BS is and insult.

Actually I saw two GCs with the same problem in the dealership here in Warsaw.
Both brand new, standing on the display.
One with over centimeter difference in bonnet fitting, other with quite similiar gap as the one mentioned above...

I'll have to check mine very carefully when it finally arrives...

What a load of #(&@ from the dealer.
I would be taking my business to another dealer, stat.

After reading your post, I immediately ran to my GC to check for the same "aerodynamic and cooling feature", but I'm back to report..... no.
Its' missing on mine.

Good luck getting your problem resolved. I think its easily fixable by someone who is competent.

During a routine service call, I had my dealer look at a door alignment issue. Mine was a top-to-bottom mismatch on the driver side passenger door - that door is ~3/16 too low - very visible when looking along the length of the Jeep, back to front.

The desk monkey came out to look and agreed the door was out of alignment, but noted this is beyond what the guys in his shop could address at that appt. I would need an appointment with their body shop.

Linkage with this thread - The guy did note that the front door intentionally is set to sit further out than the passenger door - for aerodynamic reasons - to avoid wind noise, specifically. This seemed reasonable. He was concerned with his shop simply raising the door +3/16 as this might introduce wind noise. This seemed a pretty good point.

I have not been back to make that body shop appt. Waiting for spring.

Damn...now I'm going to have to bring my WK2 in to get it adjusted to the correct gap. I mean, I want to properly cool my engine compartment and to have the factory spec aerodynamics!

Take the dealership guy on a tour of the other WK2s on the lot. Assuming they're not also misaligned, ask him why they are selling all of those which would obviously not have failed that "windtunnel test". Better yet, demand that they either "fix" all of those vehicles on the lot, or make yours "broken" like the rest.

I have to say, while the WK2 is a pretty luxurious vehicle, and holds its own for the most part with European imports, they are being sold out of some pretty sketchy dealerships. Every time I deal with my dealership I feel worse for the experience. Stories like this confirm that it's not just this one dealership but a far more common problem.

No sense building great vehicles if you aren't prepared to properly support them.

Ok guys, Chrysler Canada wasn't much help at all. They told me that they rely on dealerships to make warranty and workmanship calls, and have no authority to influence dealerships' decisions because they are all independently operated businesses.

So I took it to Destination Chrysler in North Vancouver for a second opinion and they immediately agreed that the gap is larger then should be. Made the appointment to have it realigned right away and pick her up today :). Thumbs up for Destination Chrysler in North Van .

Still not sure why the original dealership refused the repair, as my brief conversation with Destination Chryslre confirmed that Chrysler Canada pays them for all warranty and workmanship works. I guess not all dealerships are not created equall, some are better than others. Cheers.
