My WK2 purrs?!

When I accelerate slowly, between 1500 and 2000 rpm, I hear some sort of cat's purring noise coming from the front. Maybe engine area. Then I tried to duplicate that noise while it's parked with the gear in "P", noise is not there. Strange...

Any idea? Thanks.

Re: My WK2 purrs?!

I think I've experienced something similar. Was trying to figure out what it was... but I kinda gave up.

Try being parked with engine idling and shifting from N to D. When D is engaged I get the "purr" or hum or low whistle.

Was thinking of going to the dealer to see if all the 3.6L on the lot do the same.

Re: My WK2 purrs?!

This is funny i experience the same thing in my vehicle and have been trying to think a way to explain it!
This also bothers me but doesn't seem to cause any issues?

i've got the 3.6L.

Re: My WK2 purrs?!

I'm going to dealer to get their thought on this.

Maybe it could be related to TSB 21-001-11, Loose transmission tourque converter drive plate. But I'm gonna also have them check on any other things too.

Re: My WK2 purrs?!

My dealer couldn't hear that specific sound during the visit but a tech told me it sounded like kncking. And he told me to try higher octane gas.

My WK2 has only little over 3000 miles on it and already has knocking? I've always used gas with 90+ octane and only tuning I did was K&N drop in filter.

Re: My WK2 purrs?!

The caravans at work make funky noises too. Same engine I believe.

Re: My WK2 purrs?!

it's the v6 straining to move the 5000 lb SUV down the road. Instead of dropping in a k&n, you should have dropped in a Hemi.

Did new gas help? I would be surprised if it did.

Well, Hemi is not available here in Korea.

Octane rate of reg unleaded gas here is around 90~92. So, I don't think switching gas to premium unleaded will make any difference but I'm giving it a try.

I had a dealer run the engine scan but nothing showed. But noise is still there.
