Do you mean when you unlock or when you lock the door? My 2014 overland lock button on the handle is intermitent also if that's what you mean. It's pretty annoying
have you raised it with a dealer and received any kind of response?[/QuUOTE]
Not yet, but I've seen some other threads talking about this issue before. I have ordered a new battery to try it out but I kinda doubt it's going to change anything. Also, even if I haven't tried it very often, the passenger side button seems to work every time for me. Could be a bad door lock button.
I've had issues with mine also.. The key would be in my pocket and I'm right next to the car and I put my hand behind the handle to try and open and it does nothing. I literally have to take the keys out at times for the doors to open. It's really annoying because if I'm less than a foot away from the car it should open the door. My friend who drives an MDX if he walks close "5 feet or so" to his car his car I guess knows he's there and responds unlike my Jeep which seems to have an inferior keyless system.
There are times when you can stand next to the vehicle with the fob right there in your front pocket and the vehicle won't lock on the first attempt of pushing the door's lock button. It usually will by the second or third attempt. If not, just moving a little bit to one side or the other of the handle let's the vehicle finally recognize the fob.
Mine's done that since new. Not sure what's going on there. It's a minor annoyance. On the other hand, I've never had an issue unlocking the door by grabbing the handle.
I'm with you MDBones, same behaviour here. Also, I've got my fob in the same pocket as my phone so it could be interfering.. Thanks for the tip MOFSTEEL.
I had the remote on my 2015 become extremely unreliable once. It was in a VERY heavy RF Environment and the vehicle didn't respond to the remote unless it was only a couple of inches away from it.
Normally my remote reaches my vehicle from a couple of hundred feet away but that one incident was the exception.
I'm curious if there's an adjustment IN the jeep ( dealer adjusted) to increase/ decrease the range/ sensitivity.
I have no problems unlocking/ locking with the Jeep with the FOB in my pocket, but I'm getting tired locking the doors from the INSIDE and closing door while walking away and getting the 3 horns ( indicating the FOB is "inside" the Jeep)
When I'm in for the latest flash and latest recall, I'll try to find this out.
For the second time since I've owned mine, this afternoon I locked the doors with the handle button like I usually do and walked away. I stopped by the rear of the vehicle to look at something and I heard the doors unlock. Only had the fob in my front pocket so I can't figure out what could've accidentally pressed the unlock button. Same as the first time it happened.
I've had an 11 and now a 14 so I've been using the keyless/passive entry for years and to be honest it is just a little finicky.
A couple of tips:
For entry act as though your doors are unlocked. What I mean by that is just walk up and open the doors. Don't try to do anything special. Don't touch the handle, or press the button. Grabbing the handle to open it should do the trick. If you are having to touch it in any special way it is not working properly.
For locking with the button. You have to make sure the only thing you are touching is the button and you have to be pretty precise. If your finger is touching any other part of the handle it won't work. I find that my 14 limited is little tougher to operate than my 11 laredo was and I think that is b/c the button is chrome and more slick. On the laredo the button was rubber and was just easier to push.
One thing I really miss from the 11 was there was another locking button on the hatch. I used that one the most b/c as I would close the hatch, or walk away from the car it was on my way, whereas with that button missing I have stop and lock it from the drivers door. A very minor complaint.

Yea i believe the new lexus's have it as well. Saw one yesterday where the owner touched the back door handle to unlock and got in to the front driver side.
Yep. I have a GS 350 and all of the doors have the sensor to unlock and lock on the handle. Kind of a pain because I'm use to carrying my little kiddo and just opening her door to put her in, but in the jeep I have to remember to grab the front door handle first.
The keyless entry & go feature is the FIRST thing I DISABLED on both my 2012 and 2015 Overland.
I don't want my vehicle unlocking unless I press that damn button on the key fob! I never liked all of the potential security issues caused by that system (just search this forum for some of the horror stories).
1. As somebody mentioned already Keyless doesn't work if I have my fob and phone in the same pocket. Some kind of RF interference?
2. Once you go keyless you ain't going back. Especially useful when you are holding your kid in one hand and something else like a bag in another. Super neat that you don't have to search for the fob and press any buttons.
Not worried about security. If somebody wants to get in, it will get in. Low tech solutions like brick + window always work well and are preferred choice in most cases.
