Re: Mystery Squeak HELP (FOUND & FIXED)

So after a day at the dealership and one very persistent tech who made it his mission to find the squeak, I am happy to report it has been found and fixed.
Turns out that the sound was coming from the PCM bracket. Apparently a bolt was missing a.k.a not installed at the factory. So over rough roads it was rubbing metal on metal and making the squeak that sounded like it was coming from the glove box area. My ride is quiet once again. (knock on wood)

Chrysler should hire him to train techs across the country ... about dedication.

You are so right. Had the Jeep 2 months. This is the third trip to the dealer. Bad experiences until this one. Gave the guy an awesome survey response by name. Dude needs a raise.

Re: Mystery Squeak HELP

I have had many mistery squeaks on pano roof ,seats, glove box and interior trim.
I purchased myself a 2 ounce bottle of Krytox oil and treated all sunroof and pano roof mouldings and seals with it.All noises gradually went away and have not returned in 6 months.
I also treated the glove box edges with the same successful results, I also treated all the door mouldings and any plastic trim that makes any contact with other materials.
Needless to say,the Jeep is now extremely quiet and absolutely noise free.
I only used about one ounce to do the entire car,a little goes a long way.
I plan on treating the pano roof and sunroof seals again just before winter.
Its worked for me and maybe it can work for you.this stuff is expensive but it works.
Good luck.

Re: Mystery Squeak HELP

I'm having the same issue so I need to let the wife drive it while I sit in the back and look for it. At least she'll stop complaining about not having driven the JGC yet.

Re: Mystery Squeak HELP

Finally took the JGC to the dealer and left it overnight with a laundry list of things I wanted checked out, one being the creaking sound from the roof.

Well, they had no trouble hearing it. Turns out the technician had heard about this and had one other customer bring his truck in as well. So they're ordering a set of bolts I'm told and once they're in, I'll have to bring it back and leave it for like 2-3 days. I'm told they'll have to drop the interior, to get to everything and basically re-do and tighten the sunroof area. I'll talk to the tech and get more info from him when I drop it off.

I just want:
1) The squeak to stop (gotten louder over time).
2) The interior to look like it was never touched, when completed.

Re: Mystery Squeak HELP

Finally got around to dropping the JGC off at the dealer. They brought down the entire headliner and looked around the pano roof area, as they figured it was there but they couldn't find or resolve it. They opened a Star Case and Chrysler had them check a few things. Turned out with mine, they took it as it was, to their body shop and there are seams that they reinforced with additional welding. How do you like them apples? lol

I'm now listening carefully for the creaks. I hope that's the end of it.

Am I reading that correct they had to reinforce welding in seams in the roof?

That's what I was told today over the phone but I was in a meeting and could not get into a long conversation. I'm not going to make it to the dealer today so I'm going to be there first thing in the morning to pick it up and speak to the actual tech that worked on it.

I'll post what I learn.

Re: Mystery Squeak HELP

Found this in jeepforum.com:

"My 2014 GC Limited has a rear noise problem too: a squeaking sound coming from the passenger side, behind the rear seat, up high, near the headliner.

It sounded like a couple of plastic trim pieces rubbing together to produce the squeak. This would occur at low speeds going over small bumps or when turning or going around a cul-de-sac.

I was shocked at what the dealer found. After having my car for two days, removing all interior trim pieces on the pass. side, and the headliner, the dealer found that 3 spot welds in the frame near the C pillar had not been welded in and were missing. They gave me this news earlier today, said they would spot weld as need but warned me that because of the heat from welding, my paint might be damaged. They said that they would repaint as needed and all would be as good as new....sigh."

Re: Mystery Squeak HELP

I had an aggravating squeak that I thought was in the dashboard after travelling on some rough roads. Happened twice about a year apart. Turns out that my passenger side sun visor was not snapped back into place properly.
