Re: Mystery Squeak HELP

So I picked my JGC up yesterday after exactly one week.

Here's the final report:

Removed the headliner to access the sunroof. The sunroof was fine, tightly attached but the noise could be duplicated when prying up & down on the sunroof. Found noise in the the right rear pillar area. They tried adhesive in the pillar area and let dry overnight. Still creaking.

Expanding foam was used, as per body shop's recommendation and allowed to sit overnight. Still creaking.

They contacted Chrysler and were instructed to remove the sunroof and have the body shop weld the pillar seams. Body shop cleaned & welded the right rear pillar seams. Reinstalled the sunroof and all interior finishing. Creaking noise gone! Dead silence. FINALLY!

Thanks losbot. Mine just developed the roof creak in the past two months. I'm hoping the 'lube' fix addresses it and it isn't a missing spot weld. That seems like that could be a roof integrity issue if one doesn't have it addressed like you.

My service guy and the tech that worked on it told me that Chrysler is aware of it and mine was not the first they had heard of it. There was a post on another site where I read that some seams needed additional welding.

It annoyed the hell out of me. Get it looked at and let them know what you've read here. There was a Star Case opened on mine, with Chrysler.

It has the trip to the doctor on Monday. I'll post what is found. I'm hoping minor. Up until this (I dispise rattles), the overall vehicle has been great.

Uggg I have the creak up in roof on rear passenger side, mostly when car is cold and body flexes. Was hoping it was something easy but reading this thread maybe not

It's not that big of a deal really. The time consuming part for mine was that they were trying a couple of things before finally doing what was needed. I'm going to ask for the Star Case # and hopefully if any of you take your JGC in, you can have your SA reference it to Chrysler, to save some time. Once they did that, it was like 2 or 3 business days at most.

I made it a point to talk to the tech that was taking apart the interior. I expressed to him how having it look exactly the way I was giving it to him was very important to me, after having the creak removed. I basically told him "take care of the Jeep and there's a bonus in it for you". I swear it came back perfect and he even asked the body shop to detail it once he put everything back together. It looked like it did on day 1. Plus no more noise.

That's just me. I was so frustrated, I was more than happy to reward the tech and they'll get a solid review from me.

Re: Mystery Squeak HELP

Hello again, well, it went to the dealer on Monday and of course had the dreaded, "We couldn't reproduce". Figures, since it was warmer out on Monday. Leads me to believe the issue may just be it needs the grease around the sunroof gasket as it only creaks when cold. I suppose it could also be the headliner fasteners creak when cold as well. There is a TSB posted on the stickies on how to 'grease' the seals.

That or they just don't hear what you're hearing. I would have had the tech hop into the truck and I would have driven him around, pointing it out. It's just too frustrating to leave as is.
