Need Help - Gas Tank Skid Plates

Guys, I need some help from someone who installed the gas tank skid plates. Everything was going great until I was finishing up the drivers side and noticed that a stock plastic skid plate which covers some gas lines doesn't fit over top of the fuel tank skid plate. :confused: :confused:

I don't really want to remove the plastic piece and leave the gas lines exposed, but I don't see any way to keep it on... What have other people done? Any idea?

Update: I removed the plastic piece and wasn't happy with how exposed it left the gas lines....sooooo.....I brought out the hacksaw and dremel tool.

Fits perfect now and all is still protected =)

Can someone move this thread to the troubleshooting/problems category? Thanks!

Sorry for the delay... Pretty straight forward. I did them both by myself. I only had about an 1/8 of a tank on purpose. I didn't support the gas tanks while I unbolted the existing bolts, I just released them slowly and the tank sagged a little. I then put the skid plate on a jack, balanced in the middle, and slowly raised it into place, adjusting/wiggling it in place since it is a tight fit. Once you get the fit right everything should line up. At least most of the holes would line up anyways. I would start with those holes and by the time I got back around to the one that wasn't quite lined up, it would be lined up. Not bad at all.

I hit the same problem installing mine. Later, when I was at a dealer, I took a peek at a Jeep that came from the factory with skid plates installed. The small plastic piece just in front of the driver's side gas tank skid plate was metal just like all the other skid plates...and it fit perfectly. Has anyone else seen this? Can it be purchased as an aftermarket item?

Also, just want to note that the Quadra-Lift air suspension makes projects like these a lot easier. Just dial in to the Off Road II setting and no jack needed. :)

Does anyone have an answer to this? Can the OEM metal fuel line part be purchased separately? Anyone know or possibly have a part #?? Thanks

Here is the OEM part # from the parts listing catalog
04726085AB

Here is a steel version of it from Rockyroad. They call it the "Fuel line Skidplate at left replaces the flimsy plastic one under the driver's side door.

http://www.rocky-road.com/wk2-skidplate.html

I'm new to Jeep and this space. I'd call Rocky Road and see if their steel version works with factory skid plates.

Let us know how it goes.

That part# is listed as a transfer case skid plate on my 2011PDF parts catalog. It superceeds to two part#'s in the 2012 PDF parts catalog

1.) Part# 68069365AA {X3F} MSRP $70.20 This may be the OEM metal skid shipped on WK2's with the X3F skid package.

2.) Part# 68137927AA {XEF,ERO} MSRP $88.00 I think this is the OEM metal transfer case skid shipped on WK2's with the skid package! This part is included in the Mopar #82211995 accessory "kit" that includes mounting bolts at a cheaper price than just the skid alone.

Yea, I noticed the description but then when you look at the image it's the right image seems like the descripption is wrong for the image.

Rockyroad had the proper description. None of the Jeep information I found did although the Jeep images were correct. I'm spending some time with the parts guy tomorrow and will definetly get the right part number if there is a Jeep option for a Steel OEM version. If not I'll just go witht he RR version. They have confirmed it works with the factory skid package.

Just to be clear although the Jeep parts PDF lists the part# number you posted as a "transfer case skid" plate it clearly is not!
I think they described it incorrectly in the 2011 parts PDF. The illustration for the part is correct as far as I can tell.

The transfer case skid is Mopar part#82211995 (this is the skid w/ mounting bolts ordered as a kit thru the accessory catalog)

I had my parts guy call a dealer that had the part# 68137927AA {XEF,ERO} MSRP $88.00 in stock, and he said that the part was in fact all metal. This part is included in the accessory catalog "kit" with mounting bolts, but costs more even though it doesn't come with mounting bolts!

Let us know what you find out.

OK here's the deal;

For those who would like to add all the metal skids that come with a Grand Cherokee equipped with the X3F skid package **Skid Plate Group (Fuel Tank, Transfer Case, Front Suspension, Underbody)** you need;

1. Front axle skid plate Mopar part#82211995 **

2. Tranfer case skid plate Mopar part#82211994 ** **These all come as kits from the accessory catalog w/installation bolts & instructions included**

3.Fuel tank skids R/L Mopar part# 82211999 **

4. Part# 68069365AA {X3F} MSRP $70.20 This is the skid that comes as a plastic shield on non X3F equipped Grand Cherokees!
This part # is for the metal skid NOT the plastic shield that some of you have cut to remount with the other metal skids!

Edit;
It seems Jeep has a new part# for the transfer case and fuel/brake line skid strip. They are now packaged together, under a new part #!
The new part# is 82211994AB MSRP $98.30

Thanks for that. You forgot one thing, the trail rated badge.

I need to order that forth skid plate for the fuel lines now I know it exists! Hopefully it won't be to bad to slip that in with the other skid plates already installed...

Ok Guys i Ordered Said Part # "4. Part# 68069365AA {X3F} MSRP $70.20 This is the skid that comes as a plastic shield on non X3F equipped Grand Cherokees! This part # is for the metal skid NOT the plastic shield that some of you have cut to remount with the other metal skids!" and it fit perfectly without to much hassel and it completes the X3F Equipment Package so Full Skids Installed! I Took Some Pics but it was a night in the cold so ill take some in the AM when its light out!

PS: The Parts guy told me in the Computer its Listed for a 2012 not 2011 for some reason and its listed as a Skid Strip, but as you can see works fine if you want to get rid of the dremeled plastic Fuel Line Cover.
