Re: No bus

You can get a year or two old car for 1/4 the price of new. I had a good friend get a buy back caravan which was almost 40k new for just over 7 grand. I researched the issue and it was an electrical issue that was more of an annoyance then a practical issue. He lived with it and was happy. Most Jeep buy backs are wranglers for water leaks that couldnt be solved or front end vibration stuff. Its a good deal if you get one with a solvable issue.

When the o5's first came out we had a wk get bought back with esp that would intermittently kick in and cause the car to pull hard left or right with no warning, that is one i wouldn't necessarily touch lol

Some dealers might not mention it unless asked, and if they do they might downplay the issue.

"This car had a minor electrical issue, but it's been repaired and shouldn't have any issues." is what they'll say.

Re: No bus

If this happens to anyone else, the quick solution: disconnect the battery

Assuming the power seats aren't on the data bus, and you can get the seat out of the way to do this of course.

Disconnecting the battery will do nothing if the engine is still running. The alternator will keep it alive. You either have to pull power from ecm, fuel pump, or fuel injectors to kill it

Re: No bus

Well, if charging, disconnecting the battery could cause up to a 200v spike that would fry the electronics and stop the engine. The other way is to just pull the intake hose and block with your hand. The engine will stop.
Come to think of it you could probably just block the intake at the opening on top of the radiator shroud on the driver's side.

Re: No bus

You can stick a banana up the tailpipe and that will stall it out as well.

Re: No bus

You could also take a large amount of water and pour it into the intake. That should stop it.

Re: No bus

Yeah you can just disconnect the battery. No problems there. Just did it.

Re: No bus

Well that sucks. I had very similar issue with my 2012 Durango. It would freak out and all the lights would come up on the dash. The Durango became undrivable, lights flashing, no turn signals, wipers coming on... Anyway, dealer said the BUS could not communicate. They could not solve the issue and did a buy back of the Durango. Maybe if the Durango did the smoking thing the process could have been much fast and could have bypassed all the troubleshooting!
