No key fob

I went to the store and locked the Jeep. When I came out and grabbed the door handle it opened as usual. When I got in the car, the car shut down in about 5 seconds. It's been doing that ever since the first time the dash lit up like a Christmas tree. The dealer reported it to Jeep but they changed the pcm and said not to worry about it. All I had to do was step on the brake and everything would come back on. Today when I stepped on the brake it said No Key Fob. I hit the start button which set off the alarm, horn, lights going crazy.

I pressed the unlock button on the not present fob. The alarm shut down, but the screen still said no fob. I stepped on the brake, hit the start button and the car started.

Re: No key fob

With my 2011 I had to open and close the drivers door after getting the no key message before it would scan for the key again. I haven't had this problem yet with
my 2014. Replacing the battery was the only solution I was happy with if the message starts appearing with any consistency.

Hopefully I'll never need this advise and this was a one time thing.
But if it happens again I will keep it in mind.

Thank You

Re: No key fob

Why don't you replace the fob battery anyway to be sure. They are cheap. There have been reports here of people having weak batteries delivered with their new vehicle fobs.

Re: No key fob

I've had the battery die prematurely in past car key FOBs. I attribute it to keeping the FOB in my pants front pocket while sitting...with the buttons being arbitrarily pressed on my leg.

I now keep my FOBs either on my desk while at work or in my jacket pocket.

Re: No key fob

I've taken the battery out and found it to be fully charged but after I cleaned the contact points and battery, things works great. Might try this first.

Re: No key fob

Thanks for the replies.

I'm not going to do anything just yet. If I change/clean the battery and it never happens again, I won't know if it's a one time glitch or the battery. If it does happen again, cleaning or changing will be next.

The door locks opened normally, so at that point it recognized the fob.
Since then I tried a few starts and all worked well, and I can open the tailgate from the bottom of my driveway.

If all still works ok by the time I bring it in for my first oil change in August, I will ask them to press Jeep for an answer on only having five seconds after opening the driver's door and the power shut down. It seems to be the same if I just open and close the door with no fob present. I also tried the second fob and it worked the same.

Oh, I forgot to mention that I caught a weak fish last Wednesday, which proves that the Jeep is mostly doing its job.

Re: No key fob

Same type thing happened with my '13 a few weeks ago. Went to go home from dinner and as I was walking towards the truck, I hit the remote start. The lights flashed, the doors locked and it started right up. Spoke with a friend for a few minutes (no more than 5 minutes) outside the truck, then got in, closed the door and the engine shut down. Dumbfounded, I put my foot on the brake, it the start button and the engine did a long, weak crank for about 10 seconds, then started right up. It's only happened once and the dealer is gonna check it out next week.
