So I have had the car for a little over year and everything has been great.. Except this.. I have noticed it only started this winter.. Live in Chicago so lots of snow ice ect.. When I start breaking from 20+ MPH everything is fine.. Once I get below 20 MPH I begin to hear what sounds like a clicking or ratcheting sound from the rear right wheel.. The higher the RPM the faster the sound and it slows down as the wheel does.. If I do a abrupt stop it does not make noise.. Went to the dealer could not hear the sound by the time I got there (of course) and they said oh but you have a rear caliper leak so we replaced that.. Ok great! So no noise and they seemed to think it was snow or ice near the wheel.. Now it's been about a month or so and it's back.. Now I don't complain about much but this drives me crazy.. Like if my volume is at 15% I can hear it over the radio.. Anyone have any idea what this could be before I go sit at the dealer for 4 hours?
I have the exact same problem, but mine is coming from the front left caliper. I took mine into the dealer to have them check it out and they said it was from the warped rotors and the abnormal wear on the pads. I knew the front rotors are warped because you could the steering wheel shudder under braking conditions, and I was fairly sure this was the problem. I was thinking it would be a warranty issue, but the warranty for the breaks is only 12 months or 12k miles. They wanted $168 dollars to resurface rotors and replace pads. I declined the repairs and ordered new power stop cross drilled and slotted rotors and EBC super street pads for $160 off eBay. It sounds to me that you have a rotor warped on the rear and the rear one are harder to detect since most of your stopping power is done by the front brakes and feedback can be felt through the steering wheel and/ or pulsating of the brake pedal.
Well it's going back in today for a oil change and they are going to look at it.. It almost sounds like a creaking actually.. Combined with the noise of a ker-plink on rotation.. Sounds crazy trying to describe it but does not sound like warped rotors I have had before.. But I will see what they say when I take them out for a drive in it.. The weird thing is when the looked at it the first time and put the wheel back on.. It went away.. But if the say warped rotors I will deff weight my options with what you did. Do you have a link or any info on the ones you got? Right now the jeep only has 19000 miles
I have a popping noise when I depress the brakes, it stays in rhythm with the vehicle slowing down. My mechanic checked all the breaks and rotors and didn't find anything abnormal. He disassembled and cleaned out the right rear wheel thinking it might be related to the emergency brake, but again that was a wild goose chase. Need answers because it is just annoying now that I know my brakes are good.
