OBD codes P0016, P000B --- 93 octane

2011 Grand Cherokee Laredo 5.7 Hemi

I filled my tank up with 93 octane, for the first time that I
recall, and the next drive I got the engine symbol with those
2 codes and some associated monitor codes.

I think this is just a misfire, and the check engine symbol,
or Mil codes symbol, or whatever it is, went away, thank goodness!!

But, my question is, IS there anything about high octane
gas that is forbidden, or problematic, or anything??? Thanks.

I'm very sceptical(sp) about this MDS system and how robust it
is going to be. As I was doing my first drive after the above,
the cruise control would not engage, and it didn't seem to have
normal power. The ECO indicator never came in view, and I
couldn't feel the wierd/noticable shift between 4 cylinder to 8 cylinder mode.

I don't know if it is true or just an old wives tale but I have heard you shouldn't switch between octanes. Pick one from the get go and stick with it. I don't know if the detergents or additives are any different and would negatively react with one another.

Also there is about 6% of cars on the road that actually require high octane and about 20% that use it.

I think I read on here that the Hemi MDS system only works with 87 or 89 octane. I'm sure others will confirm if that is true.

I have been filling mine up with whatever is the premium at Chevron 91 or 93 and it runs fine. I've never heard the thing about picking one and staying there. My last Jeep ('02') ran the plus and premium depending on who put gas in (me/wife) and it also ran fine.

Those are not MDS codes anyways. They are crankshaft position errors and have nothing to do with the fuel.

Causes may include:

Timing chain stretched, or timing belt skipped a tooth due to wear
Misalignment of timing belt/chain
Tone ring on crankshaft slipped/broken
Tone ring on camshaft slipped/broken
Bad crank sensor
Bad cam sensor
Damaged wiring to crank/cam sensor
Timing belt/chain tensioner damaged

The reason cruise wouldn't work and Eco wouldnt come on is due to the check engine light. Once the check engine light goes away cruise will work, same with eco. Sounds like the CPU needs to have a few codes cleared and all will be good again.
