Re: Ohh noooooessss, I have the shudder :(

I am in the same boat at 2,800 miles. Mine did this from the get-go. I'll be watching your stories closely to see if this fixes it. It is a little un-nerving to move out to pass and have your car shake (as if protesting) before it decides to accelerate.

In most cases the 45mph low rpm, overdrive light acceleration shudder has smoothed out on this car.

Anyone have the link to the guy getting the torque converter replaced? I remember reading it and I wanted to follow his story.
Shudder solution!

Re: Ohh noooooessss, I have the shudder :(

So.....how 'violent' is the shudder? Similar to driving over a bumpy road or I will def know it if I have it? Just wanting to be sure I am good as all these threads over the shudder got me nervous!

You will know it, it feels like wheel hop to me. The whole vehicle will shake. When I say it feels like wheel hop it like surges quickly with power but doesn't keep going. Other have explained it as like the Jeep is fighting you to not go, that is also a good explanation.

Re: Ohh noooooessss, I have the shudder :(

That's me having the torque converter replaced, along with some miscellaneous part I have to ask about when I pick it up. I wrote these 2 part numbers from the service order when I dropped off the Jeep......Converter RL051241AA, Ubody 5166834AE. I google the numbers but got nothing.

I evidently was not the first one at this dealership to have the torque converter replaced. They said it fixed the problem for the other Jeep, which was owned by an employee of the dealership. That gives me some hope, fingers crossed.

Re: Ohh noooooessss, I have the shudder :(

I experienced the shudder for the first time today. I have 3200 miles on it and was driving 40 mph and accelerating up an on-ramp. Not a good time to have the shudder, especially trying to merge into traffic going 65.

Guess I need to go see the dealer this weekend.

I am going to call the dealer today and see if they can't ask Chrysler why they are treating mine differently that yours?

A build up of ice/snow in the wheels can cause this. Mine only happens at specific speeds and only during a shifting event.

Re: Ohh noooooessss, I have the shudder :(

I called the dealer and the tech is going to email chrysler and ask why not the torque converter on mine. The service advisor did say they have replaced the bushing before on another vehicle (not sure if it was a Cherokee) and it solved the problem. I am just concerned about taking the front end of the vehicle apart and not fixing the problem. In my experience, once you take this stuff apart, it is never the same.

I expect an answer back tomorrow. If anyone could find the procedure to replace this I would love to look at it and see how in depth replacing this isolator is. I assume it is pressed in and the whole axle assembly would have to be dropped.

Re: Ohh noooooessss, I have the shudder :(

Well I won't get my Jeep back for another 4 days. They called me and told me that they need a shift cable and they won't have the part until Monday or Tuesday next week. I am very disapointed. I needed my Jeep to move some furniture this weekend. I have a call into Chrysler to have them sweeten my situation.....if at all possible.

I will post my results next week upon retrieving my refurbished Jeep.
