I expect an answer back tomorrow. If anyone could find the procedure to replace this I would love to look at it and see how in depth replacing this isolator is. I assume it is pressed in and the whole axle assembly would have to be dropped.
Did you end up having the isolator replaced? Any feedback?

Re: Ohh noooooessss, I have the shudder :(

I got my Jeep back last night, Monday, and so far no shudder, but I have only driven it for 60 miles or so. I am slightly doubtful the problem is completely fixed becuase there have been a few noises, clunks, that are happening now that happened just before the shudder started previously. I also noticed that there is a new noise that only comes when accelerating at speeds above 40mph. It does it while using cruise control as well. I am going to let it go for a week or two in hopes that is just the torque converter needing to be broken in.

The service order receipt I recieved did mention that there were shavings found in the torque converter that was removed. Something was wrong, whether it had anything to do with the shudder or not.

I am just happy to have it back and not be stuck in a crappy rental.

Re: Ohh noooooessss, I have the shudder :(

I haven't got a call yet from the dealer, we have some really heavy snow so I didn't expect them to do it this week.

Anxious to hear the update on the converter. The problem with the level of intrusion on replacing a converter is that IMO a vehicle will never be the same. You unbolt and bolt things back together they just aren't the same. Noises appear, squeaks appear, doesn't behave like it used to. It sickens me to think about them taking the front end apart to replace the isolator and then take the transmission apart to replace the convertor.

Re: Ohh noooooessss, I have the shudder :(

mrpos, you are correct, it will never be the same. My shudder is definitely back and the noises are growing louder. I am dropping the Jeep off Friday morning at the dealer to have it looked at again. One thing I did notice, while I was experiencing the shudder, I tapped the tow/haul button and the shudder went away and the ride was smooth again. Maybe the shudder is related to the overdrive gearing???

I also have a case number with Chrysler, so that my case is reviewed and on record. I have requested a new Jeep to replace the one I have since I believe it will never be the way it was when I purchased it. I know, I know, it's a long shot, but I will keep pressing the issue until something is resolved. I urge everyone else to stress your case with Chrysler until the issue is resolved.

This is a real shame. What made them replace the torque converter in the first place? It seems that it is a known problem that the shutter is due to a problem with the front axle isolator. Was this something chrysler told them to do or they just did it? I am always concerned when they tear something apart that I will not only still have the problem but also new problems to go along with it . I would have become very concerned when they told me that they broke the shift cable. I am going through this with my 4 month old wk2. Although I do not have the shutter I have a noise from the rear end at times. They replaced the rear axle assembly and brakes and still have the noise. Next week I am going in for a rear drive shaft. I hope this resolves the issue. As far as getting another vehicle the best you could hope for is a buyback which they would deduct a certain amout by the miles you have driven it. You would have to fight hard for this since they are supposed to have a fix coming.

Well, you'll be on fix #2 and in most states after fix #3 without a resolution you can start the lemon law proceedings. Read up on the laws in your state, they may become your new best friend.

Re: Ohh noooooessss, I have the shudder :(

Chrysler informed the dealer to replace the torque converter, and in fact the repair reciept I received stated that the inside of the torque converter was gouged and had metal debris inside of it. So there may have been a problem fixed but not the shudder. And today it is even worse than yesterday, shudder at all speeds above 30 whether I am on a hill or on flat ground.

I am in one of those states with the 3 fixes or it's a lemon. When I talked to Chrysler they noted that I have requested a buy-back, but I think I will see what comes of the next round of repairs. I really don't want to lose my investment and settle for a buy back. That's just BS, the vehicle I traded was in excellent condition, and I buy a new one, it's crap and they expect me to take a loss in all of this. They will hear from a lawyer.

Re: Ohh noooooessss, I have the shudder :(

Dealer called today and the part is in. I am scheduled to go in Wednesday, February 9th. I asked about what Chrysler said on the torque converter. She said this is supposed to fix the problem. They did another new Jeep and it went away. They are also doing a Dodge truck at the same time as mine.

Will report back when it is completed. They said it wouldn't be more than a day.

I am also in a state with 3 times lemon law. I would consider the 1st attempt with the flash 1st try, this would be there 2nd for the same issue.

Why didn't I think of that! You are right, my Jeep is in for the third round, if it ain't fixed this time, it's a lemon. I'll send my certified letter to Jeep on Monday.
