I want them to fix the Jeep and I just hope it doesn't make noises when they are done (noises it doesn't make now, squeaks, vibrations, etc). If they were to buy the Jeep back, I would probably buy another Jeep. The Cherokee Overland has everything IMO. Luxury inside and offroadness for when I do want to take it off the pavement......oh, and the sound of the Hemi

I'm curious to know if anyone's got enough experience with this issue, and if it's "consistent" enough, that you could post a "how to test drive" a new vehicle before purchasing, to check to see if it does in fact have the "shudder", or if it's something that develops over time?

I had posted this in another thread:

Go 40 mph, flat road (slight hill will make it worse), allows the Torque Converter to lock up (you should feel it or see the rpms drop to around or below 1500rpm), ECO mode should be lit at this point. Give a little gas and you should feel the vehicle load up, if the ECO mode goes out, let off, try it again, get it to where right before the ECO mode is going to turn off. Once you find this point, gouge the throttle, this is where I feel mine. If you go slower than 40 you will drop an extra gear and it won't do it. The faster you go, the less shudder I have experienced.

The worst was going up hill (slightly more load) and all of the above parameters were met.

If you are going down hill I have not been able to replicate it.

Re: Ohh noooooessss, I have the shudder :(

Converter and Shift cable in. Install scheduled for Monday.

In all honesty, I think the shutter is getting better......... Not sure what to point at? The temperatures have been warming up here? I have more miles on the Jeep? I am going to let them install the converter though to see if it goes away completely.

Not real happy with the Chyrsler Help line though. The information they gave me is verbatim what the dealer is telling me. I expected more information (maybe my expectations were to high). The girl on the phone at one point told me that she has never heard of this problem and I was the 1st to get the converter????????? You would think they would have a data base to reference similar problems. I highly doubt that I am the 1st to be getting this converter!!!!! After me questioning her she then clarified that this was the 1st case she has dealt with.........that makes more sense but convenient after I asked some hard questions. The information she had was weak at most, again, I expected some research to be done and to have better answers than the dealer was giving me. Though, the service department at this dealership has been steller so far, so maybe in my case, the service department is going above and beyond and getting me information that one would normally have to call the chrysler help line.

I will keep eveyone updated. Install on Monday, then a week of driving normal and a long trip planned for the following weekend.

Re: Ohh noooooessss, I have the shudder :(

I thought they said that this new torque converter wasn't available yet? Or are they replacing it with the same torque converter you already have to see if it helps?

My dealership never said it wasn't available, that was gathered from othes experiences. My dealership says this is the converter to fix the shutter problem.....it shipped from Detriot overnight to them so maybe it is the new.....maybe they still think this will fix it and it isn't. All I know for sure is the part number they gave me supercedes the one in the STAR case I read.

Re: Ohh noooooessss, I have the shudder :(

Ok, thanks for clarifying. I'm curious to see what this does because our vehicles seem to be doing the exact same thing. I thought mine was getting better during the milder weather too but it still did it. It's colder again today and it is about the same as it was.

Did they offer any explanation about how they are different?

BTW - I may have asked this but forgot the answer. How many miles are on your car?

Good luck and please keep me posted! Feel free to PM me if anything interesting comes up. I plan to try to get my car back to the dealer in the next week or two for a real diagnosis. I feel like the more info I can take to them the better.

It started (or I noticed it) at 4000 miles. I have 4750 miles now.

They have offered no explanation as to what is different.
