Oil Change Question

I have a 2014 JGC Overland with 14,897 miles on it. I get 10 free oil changes from the dealership. (I bought extended warranty). My question is:

I have right at 5000 miles since my last oil change, but the oil gauge on the Jeeps' display says the oil has 52% use left. Is that accurate and do people get oil changes based on that gauge?

What would YOU do?

TIA

I think you are going to get a lot of differing opinions on this one.
With normal driving the evic will tell you to change it about every 10,000 that number will be reduced if you drive your jeep in harsher conditions than what is considered "normal". changing it when the evic tells you to is just fine that is why it is there. That said getting that into some peoples old school heads like mine may take some time. I am a little more conservative and change it in the 6000-7000 range. You are fine waiting to the 10,000 that it will likely tell you but just don't go over the 10,000.

No. There is no reason to ignore the owners manual. Follow the EVIC or the time limit ... I think one year.

There are two pluses to changing the oil more frequently. It puts money in somebody's pocket ... kind of like a donation. It makes the owner think their vehicle will like them better. It does as much good as calling your Jeep by some pet name.

You will get a lot of differiing opinions on that one also some believe the first change should be early to get "new engine" metal or whatever out of the oil early others believe you should leave it in full term for breaking in. Manual says change at evic which is just fine, do what you feel best about. I do an early first change at 2k and then regular changes 6-7k im pretty conservative and plan on keeping 10 plus years so it makes me feel better, in the end does it make much difference, probably not. If you can get your mind to just follow the evic is probably best, im not there yet. Lol

Evolv0 is just really nice
Re: Oil Change Question

idk I guess im one of those guys that changes his oil every 3-5K miles. no matter who or what tells me other wise. the oil comes out black and the motor sounds clearly smoother and quieter. I have noticed this on ever vehicles I have owned. but do what you want its your car.

Re: Oil Change Question

I'm old school as well... I change mine between 3-4000 miles, which translates to 70-80% oil life on the EVIC. I don't know how much I trust an oil life indicator.

My 08 Accord has an oil life indicator as well. I don't drive it in the winter and maybe put 2500-3000 miles a year on it. So that translates into a once a year oil change when I pull it out in the spring. On this vehicle it's a time thing, not mileage.

Re: Oil Change Question

I buy 5qt jugs of Mobil at Wally World on sale quite cheaply, for the 30 bucks or so it costs me to do it I find it worth it and it makes me feel better. I don't go over 3k even with synthetic oil, but I also plan on keeping the beast a while and like to pamper my cars. For a "normal" person I think 5-7k is good, I think 10k is a little high regardless what anyone says.

Is the 7= ok, but 10 = high based on any testing, or just a gut feeling?

lol my schedule has zero scientific backing, just makes me feel better. I just don't feel right when the oil gets too dark and do my own oil changes for pretty cheap so it's just to calm my nerves.

If it makes you feel better it is money well spent. Cheaper than therapy.
