Re: Oil Change Really Due?

Mine just went off two days after taking in for it's second oil change. (at appox. 6800 miles)

Three days after taking it in, I receive an email from the dealership telling me I need to come in for an oil change.

No biggie, reset the light myself. As far as telling the dealership that I had the oil change already, it's probably an automatically generated email, so no point in it. But, it was amusing.

I'll change my oil every 8k from now on. or maybe 10k or more as long as no issues are suspected.
Frequent oil changes are cheap insurance to prolong your engine life. I changed the oil on my 1993 5.2 liter ZJ every 2,000 miles and just sold it with 308,511 miles on the original engine. This after off-roading in nine states.

A lot of things have changed since '93...

Re: Oil Change Really Due?

Maybe so. My new Jeep calls for 5W-20 oil instead of 10W-30. I'm still a bit concerned about driving in the southwestern deserts in July or August with only 20 weight oil. Any thoughts?

Will synthetic oil help in higher temps? I drive long distances (100 miles) in 95+ degrees over summer on a weekly or more basis. I had them use synthetic oil at my 12000K service last week. I'm routinely servicing every 4000miles, even though most of my miles are on long drives. Am I wasting my money?

Re: Oil Change Really Due?

From what I've read, synthetics offer better protection because the oil molecules are smaller than those in regular oil, therefore more are in contact with the metal parts providing a better film between them. Has anyone else read this?

In two more oil changes (at 2 and 4,000 miles) I'm switching to Mobil One 5W-20.

As for myself I did that trick several times, but with no luck so for. It does reset the message, true, but it pops up again, 1 min after engine startup.

Pisses me off...

Re: Oil Change Really Due?

I've tried resetting the oil change indicator without success.
