Oil change tips?

At 2500 miles on my jeep and oil life says at 60%. Getting ready for first oil change soon and was wondering if anyone changes their oil at 3,000 miles or waits till the oil life meter tells them? I usually always change oil at 3,000 with my old vehicles but not sure if it's different with this jeep or that's overkill, owners Manuel doesn't really clarify. I plan on using conventional oil. Also I watched a video on youtube of someone doing an oil change and he stated he reused the oil filter gasket because it's of higher quality because it's from the factory compared to the one you get with the oil filter. Does anyone do this or do you just use a new oil gasket? Also should I put conventional or synthetic oil in when it comes time? Not sure what kind of oil came with it from factory. Appreciate any responses.

P.s. K&N PS-7026 Oil Filter http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00S0W6BIK..._g0OVwbMH54YWG Oil filter I was gonna get

Re: Oil change tips?

I typically do an oil change at 2,500 and 5,000 then 5,000 thereafter along with a tire rotation.

Re: Oil change tips?

Your 2015 3.6L comes from the factory with conventional oil not synthetic. you can certainly use synthetic if you choose to but it is not required. The jeep will tell you when the oil needs changed with normal driving its usually around 10,000 miles but will vary with your driving style and conditions. you can always opt to do it more frequently but the days of 3000 mile oil changes are gone. Also your 3.6L does not have MDS that's a feature of the 8 cylinder engines. The MDS on the 8 cylinders shuts off fuel and closes valves on two of the cylinders under certain low load conditions to help fuel economy, the 3.6L does not have this.

If you plan on keeping the jeep until the wheels fall off synthetic certainly cant hurt, if you trade cars every 3 or 4 years don't waste your money and just use the conventional. Make sure to stay with the recommended 5w20. I plan to keep mine for the very long term and do a synthetic change every 7k miles, synthetic is pretty cheap now a days so not much expense with using it.

Yeah i usually trade cars every 3-4 years and was planning on using conventional oil. Was gonna change it around 4,000 miles or when the oil life meter says change. Its at 60% now at 2500 miles

its up to you but if you trade cars that frequently save yourself the time and trouble and money and follow the maintenance minder and use conventional oil, it will probably have your changes in the 8-10k mile range.

Re: Oil change tips?

Generally a bad idea to reuse an already compressed and heated gasket. Just be sure to smear a dab of the new oil on the surface of the new gasket, she'll seal just fine so long as u don't over tighten...
