Oil Change with Quadra Lift

This might be a dumb question but Im going to ask anyhow.

A few weeks ago I did my first oil change on my WK2. To easily get underneath I put the WK in Off road 2 and easily got underneath to drain the oil. The oil change went perfect the cartridge style oil filter was a piece of cake to change. Is there any issues with putting it in lift mode to get underneath to do work.

I have parked in in off road 1 and 2 lift positions overnight and the jeep remained in its Position without lowering(Not sure if leaving it parked in OR1 or 2 is an issues either)

Thanks

Re: Oil Change with Quadra Lift

Wow, Once it's lifted I'd be using some kind of jacks for reassurance so you don't accidentally get the pancake treatment incase something fails on the QL!!

Re: Oil Change with Quadra Lift

Never rely on a air suspension for that sort of thing. If something fails, you'll be crushed.

I have four(4) 15 000Lbs ramps that I use to lift a vehicle. Drive up onto them, set parking brake and I'm set. They have dips where the tire sits, so even if the parking brake let go, it won't roll backwards.

Re: Oil Change with Quadra Lift

I use a set of ramps for the front wheels and I put chocks behind the rear wheels. I don't like the idea of crawling that far under the thing when it's just the air springs between my current self and the new thinner me.

Now, my Ram 4x4, that thing is high enough I don't need anything to get all the way under there.

Re: Oil Change with Quadra Lift

I like to keep the vehicle level so the oil drains properly so I would go to OR2 mode then put 4 jack stands on the jack points to be safe.

Park mode isn't a low-rider, even if it lowered, i doubt I'd be crushed. I did the same thing when I changed my oil.

Re: Oil Change with Quadra Lift

if you leave a door open it will also not allow even manual control in the down direction just incase the kiddo were climbing around in there or something.

I agree with everyone else though NEVER EVER EVER NEVER go under a vehicle unless you have jackstands or similar. I have heard of people dying to lifts failing. A simple way to get you to never climb under a vehicle that could crush you is this...

Imagine what happens when it does fail or drop, You might be able to eek out ONE "help" before you have no more air in your lungs and no space to inhale more... furthermore your parent, wife or kid are the unfortunate ones that get to come out and find your dead or dying body under this vehicle and do you think they have ANY idea what to do to lift the vehicle off of you? no, they get to watch you die while waiting for help to come knowing that there was something to do they just dont know what.

That sounds terrible but it happens, jackstands are like 20 bucks at harbor freight, and well worth it considering the aforementioned story that DOES happen. Cars are heavy, and dangerous to climb under, ALWAYS treat them that way.

Re: Oil Change with Quadra Lift

Use jack stands absolutely. Just don't get carried away and try what's handy...

Re: Oil Change with Quadra Lift

If jack stands are the ultimate failsafe regardless of lift method, then I might as well use QL ORII vs ramps.

Next question, anyone got a recommendation for a good creeper, or should I just go with some all-American model like this?

Re: Oil Change with Quadra Lift

We've had a rash of crushed guys working under their vehicles in the past couple of weeks. Be safe and brace up.

Re: Oil Change with Quadra Lift

Just disable the QL after you raise it up all the way. For it to suddently loose all the air and crush you out of the blue would be the rarest thing ever. If you are really paranoid, raise it, disable it, and then put jack stands under the frame on both side just in case.
