My '07 Liberty was set off at 3,000 miles. But that was correct because the owner's manual on that vehicle called for changes every 3,000 miles. What do the manuals call for on the 2 vehicles you mentioned.

Re: Oil dip stick

I no longer own the 2008 Hemi but it was supposed to have the aforementioned Oil Change Indicator System. Per Wk2 manual:
Change Engine Oil
The oil change indicator system will remind you that it is
time to take your vehicle in for scheduled maintenance.
Refer to “Maintenance Schedule” for further information.
NOTE: Under no circumstances should oil change
intervals exceed 8,000 miles (13 000 km) or six months,
whichever occurs first.

Regardless, I get the oil change message 3,000 miles after last oil change.

But then you'd have to avoid googling "bus accident deaths"

And don't even go there about how dangerous good old horses are.

Re: Oil dip stick

Called Chrysler today and really didn't get an answer. The female rep helping me said she would put a note on my file and that someone at Chrysler would read it. But, I still don't have a good answer. If the part number is correct for my dip stick then one would assume that the oil level is low.

I just want a straight answer, if the dip stick is correct or incorrect. If it is incorrect then I want one that reads correctly. Like one member said, even the tech was going by the dip stick and overfilling the engine.

Anybody know someone on the inside to call to get a straight answer and correct this problem?

Re: Oil dip stick

Well, went to the dealership today to have the NAV system radio replaced under waranty and also questioned them again about the oil level issue.
This time the service manager and the tech went out on the lot and checked other Hemi engines and the oil level was in between the marks.

I added extra oil, approx 3/4 qt to bring my oil level up to the full line. They checked my dipstick part number and said it was the correct number and then said that my oil level was okay. So I quess my Hemi takes almost 8 qts of oil, not the recommended 7qts per the owners manual.

At least I have something in writing, so if I blow a seal or develope an oil leak somewhere due to over filling the engine they can't blame it on me.

Re: Oil dip stick

Just curious, has anyone compared the dipsticks on several of the hemi engines? The part number might be the same, but could have defective placement of the marks.

Re: Oil dip stick

maybe when they wrote their little owners manual the 7 quarts is without filter change and its 7 3/4 with filter change. would make sense why we are off by 3/4 of a quart if dip sticks and everything else is correct. I am just scratching the 7 out in the manual and making it 7 3/4 that's that lol.

Re: Oil dip stick

Has this been an issue in prior model years?

Re: Oil dip stick

I'm going to check the owners manual again and see if it does indeed mention with or without the filter. I could have sworn it did say with filter but I'm going to check it again. Maybe I missed something, who knows.

I sure have to say, even though we've had some issues, we sure like our GCS. Can't think of anything else I would rather drive, just got to get the kinks worked out of her.

Re: Oil dip stick

I have this same issue on my 14 Overland 5.7. Changed the oil myself and dipstick showed a quart low. Called Chrysler Customer Service and was first told to just buy another quart. Not happy with this answer, I went to the dealer who told me to add to the "fill" line. This was just shy of another full quart. After thinking about this, I called Chrysler back and explained that the book says 7 quarts, but dealer said fill to full line which made total 8 quarts. I also told the lady I spoke with that the book said 7 quarts with filter change and that there was a statement that said running the engine too low or too full could/may cause damage. I was concerned because of warranty issues. I asked the lady if she was aware of this being a problem and she stated "No". I was told to call my Service Manager and see what he said because she could only recommend what the book called for. I called the Service Manager and he said to bring it in so they could look at it and change the oil so they could see for themselves. He did not believe me since I changed the oil myself. My wife took the Jeep in on 4/2/2014 and she took 7 quarts of oil with her. She told the dealer to use the 7 quarts instead of the bulk oil. The folks at the service department were very sceptical that the oil would be low when it was changed because we were told they had never seen or heard of this before. Well, once the change was made with a new filter and our 7 quarts of oil, the dipstick was pulled and was low (at the add line). My wife watched the whole process and said when they saw it was low, their faces just went blank. She said they checked the level 5 times before admitting it was low. Service Manager did not speak to my wife again, but they did go out and check another Hemi Grand Cherokee on the lot and it was low also. They are starting a STAR report with Chrysler on this issue now. We have paperwork saying to run just 7 quarts in the Jeep until they hear from Chrysler.

Sorry for the long post, but I have read on here that folks are having this issue. Chrysler says they have not heard of it before, but I would think someone other than me has called to report this...

Re: Oil dip stick

Had my oil pan replaced due to a smoking issue and my dipstick read low. Chrysler was contacted and they said to put no more than 7 qts. in the engine no matter what the dipstick said. I asked for a new dipstick that read correctly and Chrysler said no. I just ground off the markings on my dipstick and engraved the correct markings on the back side of the dipstick myself. No problems since. I went around and around with Chrysler over this with no fix from them. Kinda sucks that I had to fix their problem.

Sounds strange that they tell you to leave it on the add a quart line isn't it. As the oem dipsticks are cheap at only $12 I bought another one just to check the thought that maybe there was a bad batch of them or something. sure enough the new one also reads add a quart if you only use 7 quarts of oil. bringing the oil level to the full line (not over the full line) just to the full line should be full not a quart over filled.
There are people complaining about this over on the RAM forum also.

Glad to see you were able to get a star case opened on this please keep us posted as you hear things back on this.
