Just notice this leak. 35,000 miles. What is it?

Re: Oil Leak

If you have the torque specs for the bolts it might help. Otherwise, might do more harm than good (read the casting info). Could be the gasket. You don't have any info on your vehicle except mileage. If it's under warranty take it in. Also, you could try cleaning it up and see if the seepage is consistent.

Re: Oil Leak

Do you think this is covered by the warranty? I'm 100 hundred miles away from 36,000 mile warranty. We made an appointment but I may be a little over 36.000 by the time I get it in but they said don't worry will cover it under the warranty, depending on the leak.... Just wondering if some thing like this is covered?

It doesn't look like a direct leak, more like something is just accumulating there.
I'd take the advice to thoroughly wash it, plus the lower parts of the engine, and see if it returns.

If I had to guess, a main seal, but don't recall the hemi being famous for that like the I-6. However, can't even tell if that is oil or some other dark fluid. You might sniff it before you wash it off to see what it smells like.

PS. Put your vehicle in your identity info, that way it is always there when you ask a question.

Re: Oil Leak

Ok will do.... It looks and smells like motor oil and it is accumulating enough to drip. Still trying to find out what the two parts are called that are bolted together.

Re: Oil Leak

Ya that's your bell housing where crank meet trans spindle and it is not sealed as evidenced by the "drain" square hole in center. I have accum like this but much less, no drips. My guess is and remains a seal on the engine crank side due to engine oil color.

The tranny oil in these things from factory is red, right? If so, my guess may be right.

Isn't the drivetrain warranty longer than 36,000 miles? I was thinking 100,000.

Ya good catch bill_de. I confirmed on jeep.com his 2012 has the usual 5/100 on powertrain. If that's the crank seal leaking then it's covered under 5/100 since that is a "seal/gasket for a listed component (...cylinder block and all internal parts...):

Gasoline Engine: cylinder block and all internal
parts; cylinder head assemblies; timing case, timing
chain, timing belt, gears and sprockets; vibration
damper; oil pump; water pump and housing; intake and
exhaust manifolds; flywheel with starter ring gear; core
plugs; valve covers; oil pan; turbocharger housing and
internal parts; turbocharger wastegate actuator;
supercharger; serpentine belt tensioner; seals and
gaskets for listed components only.
