oil leak with less then 4000 miles

took the jeep in for an oil leak from the passenger side of the valve cover!! they had it two days and called today and said they tore an intake gasket which is causing the jeep to idle high and low and high and low.... i went to go look at it while it was taken apart, i noticed some oil in the intake manifold (sits on top of the engine), is this normal? service guy said it was and that its is oil condensation. is that true? also anyone else have an oil leak at the valve cover? thanks

Re: oil leak with less then 4000 miles

Personally, any vehicle should not have any leaks. Period! Especially when it new w/ only 4000 miles.

its leaking at the back passenger corner. the only way i knew was it dripped onto the exhaust and i could smell it. what worries me more is the oil in the intake manifold. not sure if thats normal or not.

Not normal, there is a breach, maybe a bolt that was not torque to spec or a cracked gasket.

Re: oil leak with less then 4000 miles

V8 or V6. Don't know if its your case but the V8s are noted for oil getting up through the crankcase vent and into the intake to be burned off. Something like a catch can will capture the oil before it gets to the intake.

Re: oil leak with less then 4000 miles

Depends upon how much oil. If the tech said it was normal? New engines work diff from the 80's & 90,s. after fixed, keep an eye on your oil level and watch for blue smoke in the exhaust (which is an indication of oil burn). If none occurs, you are good.

I have 8,500 on my 2011 and have had no oil leaks what-so-ever and if I were you, I would take this issue up with the people who did your service work.
