Oil Life Monitor Behavior

Hey All,

I am new to the OLM thing.

My 2014 Wk2/V6 went 5000 miles and 6 months without the OLM making a peep so I took it to the dealer for it's first oil change about a month back on my own initiative.

Today I checked the OLM, and it's showing 46% oil left with 326 miles since that last oil change just over 30 days ago. I do quite a bit of short trips and stop/go driving but more than 1/2 the oil capacity consumed after 326 miles? That seems out of whack.

I am guessing the OLM may slow down the oil life consumption rate later in the cycle but if not, at the rate I am going, the OLM will go off in less than 400 more miles for a total of 700 miles driven.

Has anyone else seen similar behavior?

Also, is the OLM configuration modifiable by the dealer? I know the stealerships like to make money off of service and they did stick a 3000 mile/3 month interval reminder sticker on my window - so I know they are hoping to see me again soon, even though that's way sooner than manufacturers recommended service interval. Wondering if the dealer might have tweaked something with OLM behavior? Is that possible?

I planned to do oil changes when the OLM goes off or 6 months/5000 miles which ever comes first.

I was surprised when the OLM didn't go off for the first oil change sooner and now am surprised it's showing so much of the oil life consumed.

Anybody?

Thanks for the reply.

Yes, I believe it was reset by the dealer based on the fact that that the OLM is showing "326 miles since last oil change" at the bottom of the EVIC screen.

I have previously read through that page at wk2jeeps (great reference site!) - and am aware of the reset procedure but am holding off on doing that until I better understand what the current state is.

Still trying to understand how the "326 miles since last oil change" could = 46% oil life left.

It it possible the OLM ended up partially reset where the mileage was reset but not the oil life?

Either that, or it is effed up. Write down your mileage and then go ahead and reset it yourself. The oil life should go to 100%.
If it bothers you, then change at 5000 miles, but the difference between 5000 miles and 5326 actual miles is trivial.

Your owners manual has your oil change interval, not that dealer sticker.

Ok, so I googled around a bit more and came across this post on another forum - Oil Percentage Reset?? - JeepForum.com - which indicates that some software updates can affect the OLM - reducing the oil life read out.

My Jeep did get PCM and TCM updates at the same time it had the oil change at the dealer, so I am going to assume that was the cause of my issue.

I did the reset procedure and am back to 0 miles since oil change and 100% oil life. Will see how it goes from here...
