Only 45 Miles on the Odometer in my New HA and I'm dead in an Intersection!

So I was more than excited to pick up my new '16 High Altitude last night. She had 15 miles on her (8 of those from my test drive earlier) when the papers were signed. Drove around last night with no issues. The ESS battery was not fully charged yet so the system wasn't activating until this morning. Left the house and got to the first light in the neighborhood and the ESS kicked in. Only problem was when the light changed it wouldn't start back up. The screen said "Auto Start/Stop Not Ready. Shift to Park". I followed the directions but then I could no longer shift back to drive. Turned the Jeep off but still would not start, again couldn't shift. I could never actually get it to completely shut down. The screen now said to press brake and push start. I kept trying that and still nothing. Long story short my brand new vehicle that is less than 24 hours old had to be towed back to the dealership and no one knows what is wrong. The only positive thing right now is they gave me another High Altitude off the lot to drive in the meantime but I'm getting an anxiety attack every time the engine stops now for fear that the same thing will happen again.

Anyone else experience anything remotely similar? What worries me the most is that they have never seen this issue. I'm feeling like it is electrical system/software related.

A man's worst nightmare come to life. Sorry to hear you're having issues, especially this early in the romance. Keep us posted on how it goes. The Stop/Start feature is new to everyone.

That certainly sucks. I'm curious to know if this could in any way be related to this upcoming recall for the wire crimping issue on the shifter harness? Parks, do you know the build date of your HA? I'd at least bring this up with your dealer so they can rule it out if it's not.

Sorry to hear that. It sucks when the honeymoon phase is interrupted with things like these. Not that this will help but, I was excited about the ESS function at first (coming from a small sedan, I was trying to get the best MPG that I could in my new Jeep) however, I'm just making it a routine to turn ESS off every time I start the vehicle. At least for me, the possible savings in gas don't compensate for how annoying this thing is lol

I turn ESS off in my 16 just like I used to turn ECO off in my 14. It's part of my start up procedure... I don't even think about doing it anymore.

Re: Only 45 Miles on the Odometer in my New HA and I'm dead in an Intersection!

I've been turning it off in the loaner almost every time now. It's been especially annoying when I've been pulling into the garage. I've got a tight fit so I occasionally have to inch forward and stop and the ESS kicks in.

I'm hoping to get a status update in the morning. I'll let you all know when I hear something.

I thought about that too. I don't know the build date off hand. The loaner HA I have is 4/16 but I have a feeling mine is before that because my sticker price was slightly lower. I don't remember off hand when the price increased.

Re: Only 45 Miles on the Odometer in my New HA and I'm dead in an Intersection!

So the initial diagnosis was loose wiring related to the starter. I'm not sure if this was also related to the recall or not. It's an easy enough fix but still concerning none the less. I'll try to get more info tonight when I go to pickup. I'm just glad to be getting back into my own Jeep. Let the honeymoon commence (again)!

Sounds to me like that is related to the recall.

Awesome man, glad to hear its going to be an easy fix (if it hasn't been fixed already). Nothing has to be worse than a brand spankin new vehicle leaving you stranded. Like you said though atleast you had a nice loaner.

Re: Only 45 Miles on the Odometer in my New HA and I'm dead in an Intersection!

So the service invoice is fairly detailed in the troubleshooting steps they took:

"attempted to start numerous times and could hear starter relay clicking but engine would not turn over, only code found was p06ef, I checked the battery connections and state of charge using the gr8 and found no problems, I removed the starter and checked all connection and found no problems, I checked circuit t750 for an open and found the circuit open, i checked the inline connector for pin pushout, corrosion, etc. and no problems, i checked the harness for chafed wiring and found the wiring chafed behind the intake, removed intake and repaired wiring, test drove vehicle for 20 miles and and had no start/stop issues, all ok at this time"

Glad that all is okay but that doesn't mean I don't get a little nervous everytime the auto stop kicks in. I think I'll just switch it off for the time being. lol

That's great news. I was worried we were about to be inundated with horror stories concerning the new start/stop feature. A few little gremlins is acceptable. Congratulations on your new ride.
