opinions on good scanner to buy

Anyone have any thoughts on a decent scanner to purchase?
To plug into OBD II port.

Re: opinions on good scanner to buy

If you have an Android phone or tab then the best all around is Torque Pro (software). Will need an OBD-II BT dongle ($10-$20).

Been keeping track of the CYL 2 misfires and P0302 with mine.

Really the next step is Autoenginuity with the MOPAR package, about $450.

Are things in the middle and for different platforms but no real advantage.

I have been using ScanXL from Palmer Performance for probably 10 years on numerous vehicles and been very pleased with it.

Re: opinions on good scanner to buy

My point was between Torque Pro ($5 app) and a BT dongle ($10-$20 on Amazon) and the $450+ Autoenginuity you can pay a lot more but you do not get much more.

The major difference is between having the standard SAE defied ODB-II functions and tests and also having the manufacturer specific extended ones, particuarly the ones for MOPAR.

Both can e-mail results which I find very useful.

MID:$a2 TID:$0c
Misfire Cylinder 1 Data
Test result value: 1 Count

MID:$a3 TID:$0c
Misfire Cylinder 2 Data
Test result value: 679 Count

Torque also has extended GPS logging ability which can be handy if you need a record.
