I took my grand cherokee in for a check engine light yesterday. The dealership said that the number 4 cylinder was misfiring. After they spent a day checking the wiring, they called corporate. They shared the codes and corporate told them right away they knew all about this problem and would have to replace the cylinder head. The part is on special order from New York to California. I only have 14,000 miles. Anybody else had this problem?

This is my second grand cherokee. I just want it back and functional. I really hate that the service loaner pickup is not keyless. I have the V-6.

Update:

The service rep called me today and said a valve had abnormal wear and was a defect from the factory. He said the process was very involved to replace the the cylinder head.

It is the first one that the dealership has done on the new model of engine. He said they had to take apart the transfer case and remove the front suspension to get it done.

I am glad that it has the 100,000 powertrain warranty. I am nervous that they may not get it re-assembled correctly. I don't want a lemon:(

I hope this isn't what I have.... 16K miles on my V6, check engine light came on. The initial dealer ran the code, said it was something about the fuel running rich, but they didn't have time to do the full work. I asked if it was okay to drive from Detroit to Michigan, and they said it was okay.

That said, I got to Chicago, all seemed well. But after I stopped and then got back in, car was vibrating, check engine light started blinking/beeping. And it wasn't responding well to the gas, I was about to shut it down, but then the blinking stopped (but still remained lit) and the car seemed ok. Already have an appointment for tomorrow, so I'll keep you posted.

Gettin a head replaced on my wifes 11 v6 right now too. I started a thread a couple weeks ago. They have had it 2 weeks right now and are waiting on a tool that is on back order so they can take it apart. They did get her a rental vehicle so as far as I am concerned, they can take as long as they want. I pray it is fixed for good after this we are so tired of dealing with it. Here is my thread... http://www.jeepgarage.org/showthread.php?t=32195
