Re: Outside lock button

I have a 2016 Overland that the lock is flaky on. The unlock seems to work ok.

Re: Outside lock button

I have a 2014 I just bought last week and noticed this happening too. I got a video of it and I"m taking to to the dealer to fix. Its under warranty so they can keep it until it's fixed. In the mean time they can give me a rental car.

Hi tallguy,

Our techs here at corporate suggested double-checking that the second fob is not in the vehicle, just to make sure, and also seeing if the lock issues happen with the second fob as well as your primary fob. Ultimately they suggested visiting the dealership to see if they can troubleshoot.

It may just be coincidence.

On my 2015 Limited, nothing has changed in the performance of my locks or door handle operation. I still have to occasionally press the rear hatch button on the remote 4 times to get the gate to open. That was the case before, too.

Thanks Kori, yeah, no second fob close by for sure...
I took it to the dealer, told me that this is just fine, normal behavior...of course it's not.
There is a reason the Grand Cherokee is basically last when it comes to owner satisfaction, it's simply a terrible vehicle both quality and performance (3.6l engine). Only good there are plenty alternatives out there...
Sorry but I had way too many issues with transm. and vehicle electronics, vehicle has to go.

Re: Outside lock button

I have the same issue, and I think I've narrowed it down to an overly-sensitive capacitive sensor in the driver's door handle.

After getting out and closing the door, if I touch anywhere on the chrome portion of the driver's door handle, the locks will attempt to unlock (lock actuators will click and the lights will come on) even though they're already unlocked. It depends on how dry it is (worse when it's drier), but sometimes I can activate it a few times. Most of the time it won't do it if it's wet with water drops all over the handle.

The software locks out the lock button for a few seconds after an unlock command. By the time your finger actually pushes the button, an unlock command had already been sent the moment your finger touched the button. If I hear it try to unlock, I'll wait three seconds before pressing the button again and it will always lock.

Not sure if the sensitivity is a software thing or if the handle is actually defective. The passenger side handle works exactly as it should.

Sorry that your one experience turned out so bad, I couldn't be more happier with the GC, even the 3.6L gets it done. My other car has 1200+ hp and I'm more than happy with the V6 in the Jeep. I'm already looking forward to my next GC.

Actually while Jeep often rates last in reliability, it is just as often at or near the top of the heap when it comes to customer satisfaction. Us Jeep owners are a bit crazy.

The 2014 was a year of many issues due in part to all the new stuff. I kept mine for less than 2 years. I drove a mostly trouble free Escape for 2 years, and so far my 2017 Grand Cherokee has been trouble free. I also had an 07 Jeep that was trouble free for the four years I had it.

When they are good the are very, very good --- But when they are bad

Are the fobs equal in rank or precedence, and by primary fob do you mean the fob I use the most as the primary driver? Or is one fob primary and the other is secondary, and if so how can you tell?

I think it's the former, that the fobs are equal in precedence. I haven't come across anything in the manuals that says there's a primary fob that's higher in rank or precedence.
