Outside lock button

I have been noticing my 11 Limited doing this lately but it didn't do this when I first got it in October. When I pull up somewhere and park then hop out and use the button on the outside door handle to lock up the GC it will take sometimes as many as 6 pushes of that button before it actually locks the door and honks the horn. It flashes the parking lights on the first push but takes as many as 5 more pushes before it actually locks.

Anyone else run into this problem and have an idea what is going on? It really isn't too big of a deal just more of an annoyance than anything.

Thanks!

Re: Outside lock button

I have a similar issue, the button on the liftgate has completely stopped working. I noticed this right after all the snow storms we had and all the salt / road spray was caked on in the back. Wondering if it got in and messed something up. Will remove and check wires.

Maybe similar with ur door handle?

Possible, since you can't use the button without the fob being near.

Speaking of that, does anyone else thing that's dumb? It's not like it would allow you to lock the key inside.

Maybe someone else has some thoughts on it, but I can't think of any compelling reasons why they would have the outside lock button disable itself if the key fob isn't near.

Then again, I also think not having an auto-lock function be an option when the key fob leaves the vicinity is a huge oversight. I want my vehicle locked when I'm not near it. I shouldn't have to hit a special button or pull out the fob when getting in and starting it doesn't require that. All they have to do is put a checkbox in the settings, just like the other lock settings.

I thought weak battery too but it does flash the parking lights on the first button push. Just doesn't lock the doors. It is both driver and passenger door too. So it isn't in the handle.

I just did it and it flashed the parking lights twice and on the second push it locked the doors, honked the horn, and flashed once. Anyone know what it means when it flashes the lights twice?

Try pushing the button with your thumb without curling your fingers inside the handle and see if it makes any difference. Also, I have heard some say if you have a smartphone on your person it effects this. I can have my key fob on my dresser inside my condo and still lock and unlock my Jeep in my attached garage so there is a certain amount of range.

Re: Outside lock button

^^exactly what I thought of when you said "flashing twice". Ive done that before, griping the handle and trying to lock. It gets confused and thinks you are trying to unlock. Now I just make my hand into a fist and use only my thumb to push the lock button.

Re: Outside lock button

Yeah I have made sure I was mentally not grabbing the handle. It is a good tip though for someone new to proximity keys. The smart phone thing is a possibility though. I never thought of that. When it is the worst is after my drive to work and I do have 2 smartphones on me at almost all times. I will have to try it without them and see if it makes a difference. Thanks!

I have noticed if I am hand washing my GC before that the parking lights will flash for no reason at times if the fob is within range. I'm beginning to think I might have a flaky keyless system.

Re: Outside lock button

I have a similar problem on my drivers side, takes multiple pushes for it to lock. But I get no lights flashing until it locks, my fob batteries are great. I thinks its something to to with the antenna, I have found that I have the fob out of my pocket, and close to the door, it works everytime, have you tried that?

That's going to happen to anyone. It can happen when hosing it down, too, if you're close enough.

Just move the fob away from the vehicle when washing it.

Re: Outside lock button

If I have my phone in the same pocket as my key, I've had times where it doesn't see my key. If I remeber right its only when the key is between my leg and the phone.

Too many mods to list for each, so let's just say a lot was done over the years.

I have not tried having the fob out in my hand when I push the handle button. I will try and see what difference I see. Stinks though cause if you have the fob out just lock it with the button on the fob.

This is just me being super lazy and not wanting to have to get the fob out of my pocket to lock the Jeep! Lol. Oh the horrors!
