Re: Overland leather dash issues

Older thread but I thought I'd share my experience with this.

Our dashboard had similar issues... Peeling where the main panel meets the defroster vents and bubbling in the small strips closest to the windshield.

Our car is a 2012 with 50,000 miles so well over the 3 yr, 36k mile warranty.

They ended up replacing the entire dash unit for a co-pay of $50. Not bad for a likely expensive part, 3 days of labor, and a rental car...

My only issue, and maybe that's cause my old one was "worn-in" is that the new one looks more fake, like rubbery, compared to the old one. Like I'm not even sure if its leather...

Anyway in general it looks great, and the techs made all the normal gaps in the trim much tighter than it was even from the factory. Basically looks better than it started as there were many uneven gaps in the trim around the steering column etc.

Hope this helps calm any fears you all may be having about asking for the replacement.

-Ryan

Re: Overland leather dash issues

I bought my 2011 Overland with that issue of bubble right by the instrument panel. I am a little reluctant to have fixed for same reason that it will cause other issues later on. But most dealerships will have a leather specialist do work. I bought a custom fit windshield visor to help protect dash.

Re: Overland leather dash issues

I'd pay a leather shop out of pocket to fix a small bubble on my dash before I'd let the monkeys at the dealership replace my WHOLE dashboard.

Does it have stitching in it? If it does, it is leather, if not it isn't.

Not at the Chrysler/Jeep dealerships out my way they don't. If you know of one in Massachusetts, pray tell.

Regardless...ripping out & replacing the WHOLE dashboard for a small bubble in the leather sounds ludicrous to me. There's NO WAY I'd want someone making $15 or less per hour replacing my dashboard.

You seem to think wage is an indicator of the pride a person takes in their work or their capability. Smh.

I wouldn't trust that replacement to someone who doesn't care about their quality of work or the customer, not based on their income level.

Re: Overland leather dash issues

I had a MY14 Overland dash replaced due to a tear where the binnacle section is stitched on. I wasn't told of the total replacement until dropping the car off for attention to another item.

The amount of damage done replacing the dash was mind boggling, including prise marks around virtually every trim joint. The vent garnish looked like it had been dragged across the ground. The dealer "techs" also folded the rear seats down... probably for storing the dash and other parts in the boot... crushing an item on the back seat.

I thought the Service Manager might cry when I called him back to look at the workmanship... especially as this was after the incident of the oily rag left on the turbo housing.

Cheers,
Steve
