Corinthians are only in the wild and very difficult to capture for their hides.

Re: Overland Summit leather issues

Just wanted to bump this thread because I plan on ordering an Overland in the next few months. Does anybody know if this premature wear with the Saddle interior is an on-going issue? Just from reading through these threads it seems to be mostly isolated to 2011 models with maybe a few 2012's. Are there any reports from 2012's with later build dates? For those of you who have had replacements, how are they holding up?

I really like the look of the Saddle interior so I'm hoping this has been corrected by Chrysler.

Re: Overland Summit leather issues

I can say that my late build 2011 (last week for '11 model) has had no issues to date and I am at 9mos old and 12k miles.

Re: Overland Summit leather issues

I have 6K on my Summit. While I dont abuse getting in and out and I also use a "jeep" towel seat cover, mine looks to be very unevenly dyed in many spots. the headrest covers are noticeably a different shade from the seats as well.

If I had a chance to do it over I would skip this color and go woth the black. I love the way it looks brand new but even lite wear is showing too much.

I havent experienced the cracking yet though. I treat this JEEP like it is a baby. One of the reasons I dont like the OS and hope to be in Laredo, X or limited in time...

Re: Overland Summit leather issues

I don't think how you treat it makes a difference. I constantly clean and treat the leather and had horrible cracking.

I have said it before and I will say it again, its all in how you get in and out of your car. Peoples weight has a lot to do with it as well but we wont go there lol. Sure, maybe saddle wears sooner than other colors or brands, but if you get in and out of your car somewhat gently it wont be an issue. I always cringe when I see someone get into a car with nice leather and they drag there asses and jeans across the bolsters then plop down onto the seat. I guess im more anal about things than some people, but for me the saddle wear is not an issue. I know I dont have many miles on my 2012 Overland, but with 3,030 miles the interior looks and smells like the day it had 1 mile on it.
I wouldnt let this be a deciding factor on whether you get saddle or not. I say go for it.

James

Re: Overland Summit leather issues

Thanks for the replies. The Jeep will be for my wife so she will have the final say on the color choices. I prefer the Saddle myself, but it's hard to tell what she'll end up deciding on.

The wear issue sounds like it's hit and miss at best so I won't let it be the determining factor. I could buy the how you enter/exit theory more if I wasn't seeing pictures of worn out seats with less than 10K on the clock. That should never happen regardless of how you get in and out.

Who knows, maybe we'll end up going with a loaded up Limited instead which would make the point moot anyway.

Only the seat part is leather. I'm pretty sure it is bonded leather as I don't think they have used hides in 30 years.
