Paint cracking

So the other day I was washing my jeep and noticed a spot that I thought was just a bug but it defiantly wasn't. My clear coat is gone and the paint is actually cracking. Has anyone else had any problems like this with their paint. I wondering what Chrysler will do about it.

Re: Paint cracking

hard to tell from pic...but it looks like a run in the clear and the clear as chipped off. I think some wetsanding and a buff could take care of this. Hard to tell though. Where is this located on the truck?

I've looked at it many times and the clear coat is completely gone. What you see is the actual base coat cracking and showing the primer underneath it. It's a 2012 Wk2 and it on the drivers side of the hood. There isn't a chip or dent or anything so it couldn't have been a rock.

Yea I've had it about 1 1/2 years it only has 25k on it. That's pretty shitty though if they don't do anything for me. Have you herd of this happening to anyone else?

Yeah Im having these randomly pop up on my jeep. Few on the hood one on the drivers door handle and one near the roof rack. This has never happened to any car I have, and all of them have baked in the sun for years, but this one was parked in the shade while I have had it. Mine is older than yours but still, if it was more than 20 years I can expect this but I think chrysler is just cheaping out on the paint.

Re: Paint cracking

if theres other documented cases and its found to be a factory defect...I don't see why they wouldn't cover it.

@greenwayer. Have you gone to Chrysler about it. If so what have they said?

I haven't done anything about it. I am not sure who to contact either. Do I just go to the dealer or what number do I call?

Re: Paint cracking

I have seen similar damage when a car gets egged or leave a good healthy bird shot on the paint for a bit. Egg works fast like a few hours birdshit much slower.

See I thought it was a huge bug at first but I had washed my jeep maybe a week or two prior so if it was a bug I dot think it could have eaten through the clear coat that fast. I know it wasn't bird shit or from being egged. I'm waiting to hear back from the dealership on what their gonna do for me?
