Re: Paint Defect in 2014 Billet Silver

^^^^certainly agree it probably is an issue like you stated, but what gets me is how often is this happening. like I said, I have an 06/14 build and I'd bet if others who have had this issue as well stated their b.o.d. it would be quite wide spread which is just unacceptable in my book, and this is where Chrysler/fiat loses credentials in the qc dept with me.

Re: Paint Defect in 2014 Billet Silver

Pretty disturbing to see how many of you have replied with the same issue. I hope you are all bringing this up to Jeep and having it documented even if you aren't having it fixed.

Hood and door are being repainted now then have to wait several days before the clear bra can be reinstalled. I'll let you guys know how it goes. If there is a noticeable difference in paint color or over spray I will be asking them to do it again. I guess I am just anal about my vehicles but there is no way I could live with this on a brand new vehicle. It is hard to see in most lighting conditions but in certain ones you can see it from 10-15' away.

Thanks for the replies, I'll be using this thread to show Jeep that I'm not the only one with this defect if there is any resistance on their end.

Re: Paint Defect in 2014 Billet Silver

IMHO, avoid breaking into factory metallic fleck paint in high visibility areas at all costs. You stand a much higher chance of regretting messing with it than not.

I rejected my first Summit because of this on the hood. You could see it from 15 feet away in sunlight. Dealer was like, "We'll respray the hood no problem." I knew better than to fall for that on a car I will keep til dead especially on a hood (high impact and vis area) on the "lovely" streets of Cleveland

It also has some sand/rice grain imperfections in low-vis areas but would have taken rig no problem if it weren't for the hood defect.

Agree completely especially when you keep them a long time, I do also. I'm less concerned about the matching the day I pick it up as a few years from now. From experience even having it done at high quality shops often the area ages differently and a few years later you end up with different shades or worse failing clear coat. My last car was hit insurance company warranted the work 3 years later I had them repaint again and two years after that again different shading, two different shops. By that point car was old enough I wasn't going to mess with it. Many people trade or lease cars in just a few years so the long term doesn't matter but keeping it long term it is something to consider. That said viewable and noticeable at 15 feet would likely bother me also and maybe a hard call. Each situation is unique I'd say

I happily accepted my Deep Cherry Red Crystal Pearl (ridiculously long name ) as it's paint was as good as you'll get in today's market.

Re: Paint Defect in 2014 Billet Silver

I got to stop reading these threads!! I went and did a inspection on my paint (max steel) and found an oval mark the size of a quarter on my passenger door. If I look at it straight on can't see it. If I look from and angle I can see it. Now it's bothering the crap out of me. I've had the jeep for 6 weeks now and numerous washes and didn't notice it.

Re: Paint Defect in 2014 Billet Silver

I've washed and waxed my 07/2014 Billet Silver from stem to stern and haven't seen the oval imperfections being mentioned here. Either they fixed the problem before they got to mine or I just got lucky.

I have the same discoloration in the same location on mine. I didn't notice it at inspection because it was overcast. It certainly stands out with the garage light hitting it at an angle.

Its a warranty item that they have to fix.
