Re: Paint Issue

Less of an issue after you install the 3M clear film on the front 1/3 of your hood. Practically every 2011-12 GC I have seen has this issue, except for the darker colors or white. It is slightly noticeable on my Mineral Grey. I don't let it bother me. And like I said, the 3M film covered up a lot of the problem.

The TSB basically says they will buff it for you. No dealer is going to take a buffer to my car...

Re: Paint Issue

Agreed! I'm not even using the free oil change coupon. I'll change my own oil... Thanks. They backed into something with the car and I missed it when I picked up the car... I've seen the work they do. Again, I'll repair the scratches myself.

Re: Paint Issue

I have the same blotchy appearance on my mineral grey 2012 and I too disagree with having a dealership touch it. If they want to pay my body guy to do it maybe, at this point it is the entire hood so it looks uniform and actually kind of cool so I'm going to leave it. Should problems arrise like premature corrosion or chipping/flaking that is a different story.

Re: Paint Issue

I've decided not to mess with this. As others have said, the dealership is likely to make matters worse. And I'm not 100% convinced this is really an "issue" to begin with - it might just be how the metallic paint appears under certain lighting and at a certain angle. The "botchyness" completely disappears in sunlight. I've also noticed this is not exclusive to just the hood, it's just more apparent on the horizontal surface.

The only thing I may do is bring it to the dealership and have them make a note of it...so that if it does get worse with time, they can't say it was from neglect or somehow blame it on me.

Re: Paint Issue

I agree that it may be inherent with metallic paint. My '98 Grand Cherokee Limited in "Platinum Metallic" while a totally different color, has the exact same "blotchy" appearance on the hood under certain conditions.
