It's NOT a body design issue.

It is either bad batches of paint or a chemical reaction issue with the rust treatment they often put on lower panels. Such that when it is hit with sand or small stones it is chipping the "weak" paint away.

Or it's a reaction to chemicals used in your location.

They do use chemical on roads these days.
My black untainted plastic is damaged, therefore it is no a paint issue.

Ummm... not on the back roads of Western Australia. These panels are definitely exposed to stone strike, irrespective of mudflap fitment.

I could capitalise... but nah.

Cheers,
Steve

Re: Paint Rock Chip Damage is Extreme

Well...finally had nice weather and got to cleaning the Jeep.

Needless to say I thought I missed a few spots and tried to re-clean them. I have the same issue as noted above, it essentially looks like the bottoms of the doors are sand blasted and the front of the rear wheel arch is mangled by road debris.

I picked up the Jeep in December and winter was just gearing up here....needless to say I am pissed about it.

I took a pile of photos to show the dealer when I go in for my first service. Being OCD about the appearance of my vehicles, this does not bode well.

Looks nice on a $40k+ vehicle doesn't it? Very disappointed to say the least.

5000 miles on my 14 Limited, with splash guards, and I have quite a few nasty rock chips on the rear doors. Trim in that area is trashed as well. Anyone have any luck preventing this? I am looking at several clear bra materials and am even contemplating running boards now.

This sucks - I drove my 08 on a lot of gravel and had NO rock chips like this. Anyone have any luck with their dealer or Jeep helping out?

Re: Paint Rock Chip Damage is Extreme

I have the "Rock" road rash look too near the lower rear doors/rocker area. My dealer say's Jeep/Chrysler denied the claim because they say I had to have caused it driving over rocky roads which as a rule I only drive over paved streets and do zero off-roading. I do drive in a snowy area but snow/slush should not caused that damage. I am disappointed to say the least. In the past a Trailblazer, Rav4 and Highlander stood up fine to the winters and my driving so I think it's something else entirely. 2014 GC Overland.

Yes...it's called thinly applied cheap clearcoat/paint from Chrysler.

My mud flaps have saved my rear doors & rocker panels so far, but the lower portion of the front bumper has got some chips...and my vehicle only has 6,5000 miles on it and hasn't seem Winter yet.

Re: Paint Rock Chip Damage is Extreme

I was of the understanding that the thicker the clear, the worse it chips?
