Re: Paint Rock Chip Damage is Extreme

If/when they peel that plastic off to repaint, they should send one to Chrysler, and give the other to you. So odd that it's the same damage as the paint.

Re: Paint Rock Chip Damage is Extreme

Do the mud flaps protect enough or do you need the flaps AND the film. Put mudflaps on last week and got a price quote of $300 for rocker film installed.

Angry Re: Paint Rock Chip Damage is Extreme

I hate the look of mud flaps..and honestly when you trade it in.. (as we all do anyway) dealer never gives you more $ cause it wasn't smoked in, or eaten in.. or has some rock chips.. they grab the little book.. and give you a number.. with that said.. I added 4 OEM mudflaps.. at 1500 miles noticed.. big chips in the lower doors.. I think the tread on the tires flings rocks like crazy.. (I should have known.. driving it home from delivery .. got home.. noticed the rear wheel had a rock chip in it.. less that 100 miles..)

GET MUD FLAPS!

Oh and a theory I have on why not 'everyone' is noticing this.. I have the overland.. and I think when it raises up and lowers for highway speeds etc.. it's changing where the 'rocks/sand' get flung.

They're like 36 dollars for the front and 36 dollars for the rear.. Yes, the dealer can put them on.. probably 1/2 to 1hr labor charge.

Theres a little piece of clear protective film on the bottom door edge, you can see it in the pictures. Its a clear urethane film that protects the paint from chipping.

Re: Paint Rock Chip Damage is Extreme

I'm assuming if I remove the plastic, that portion of paint will look fine. The plastic is pitted...just like the paint. Yes, in a photo, it looks like splatter from the road. The plastic trim is also roughed up badly. Service department already determined it is rock chips. I'll have it painted, plastic replaced, and put on the mud flaps.

Re: Paint Rock Chip Damage is Extreme

That is beyond bizarre. That plastic shouldn't pit at all, and for the trim to be that pitted too. I have seen a lot of things in my time as a car detailer...but I have truly never seen anything like that.

Is Jeep going to have it painted for you? One thing you might want to do is just have that entire area below those mouldings done in a 3M or Xpel clearbra.

Re: Paint Rock Chip Damage is Extreme

Have you used any heavy duty claener/degreaser on your car? This looks like total clear coat failure like they forgot to do it at the factory!! That or if you did use a heavy cleaner they can eat away the clear coat especially if you use them at full strength. Otherwise the paint is covered under the 36k warranty and I would demand the entire vehicle be repainted and then rewarrantied.
