First of all...please don't respond back and bite my head off. Regardless of what you may think I'm actually trying to help.

This is what I would recommend, BUT whatever caused this damage also pitted the factory paint protection film, so I'd be concerned if you come into contact with that again it would damage the film in the same manner which it did in your case. Replacing that film may be as costly as repainting the lower part of the doors.

Wherever you have it installed I would discuss this with the installer and see what kind of warranty they offer in case that should happen...

Re: Paint Rock Chip Damage is Extreme

BMW has been having a stone chipping problem on their X5's with the M Sport option and the X5M's also are experiencing the same stone chipping problem due to the 20" wheel/tire combo. Of course BMW would never admit a problem but some dealers did get BMW to ok a repaint below the side mouldings.

Re: Paint Rock Chip Damage is Extreme

Scott, I'll take some pictures after the roads dry off and will post.

We just had some wet snow up here so I'll shine it up again after everything melts.

Re: Paint Rock Chip Damage is Extreme

Sorry that I haven't posted pictures for everyone to see. I got tired of looking at the damage and the white undercoat showing through from the 100 or so rock chips that they couldn't polish out.

Got rid of the Blackberry GC and bought a 2012 Stone White one.

Shouldn't have problems this time. Put on running boards, mud flaps and a full 3M package as soon as I got it.

Congrats on your new ride! What parts of the car did you cover with the 3M package?

2013 SRT8 Extreme Chipping

Well I am going to bring this post back from the dead. I have damage on my 2013 SRT8 with 350 (less than 200 put on it by myself) miles and 4 months old.

I already know what is causing this on mine. The SRT8 rear tire sticks out just enough and is such a soft compound of rubber that it picks up every little piece of road debris it can find and likes to throw them directly onto the front of the rear molding and bottom of the rear door.
I verified this with my Go Pro 2 weeks post snow road treatment on a little 10 mile drive up and down the road. Even at very slow speeds it likes to chunk whatever is attaching itself right into these areas and makes you sick to even watch.

On a another note the wheels on this one have several blemishes as well. A lot of what looks to be metal flake under the paint and some actual runs in places and this is something I was going to let go but the more I think about it the more I think it should be corrected.

I think I am going to go ahead and call and get a case started before ever taking it into the dealer and have my appointment set up for when the warranty rep is actually going to be there.
Myself and immediate family have spent well over half a million dollars on Jeeps in the last 2 years alone and have been loyal Jeep owners for over the last 25.
Not that we should receive any special treatment over anyone else who has spent or is spending their hard earned money with them but I expect this to be taken care of with nothing out of pocket on my end.
This is totally unacceptable on a 70K vehicle or even a 15K vehicle in my opinion and I feel/hope they will want to address it properly rather than go round and round.

I will edit this post tonight after I finish detailing it and post up some pics.

Re: Paint Rock Chip Damage is Extreme

I have had my 12 Laredo for a year now and have been on plenty of gravel roads with it and no damage. It could very well be the wider tires causing the problem considering I have the smallest tires you can get and no rock damage. One of the first things I wanted to do was put some wider tires on but quickly re-thought this when I first started reading this thread last year.

Re: Paint Rock Chip Damage is Extreme

My car has 4400 miles on it and it looks almost the same.
I just noticed the other day while washing it and was hoping it was something that would come off with a clay bar. Now I'm thinking about dumping this car while I can still get something for it.

Re: Paint Rock Chip Damage is Extreme

I have the same type of damage on my Jeep 2013 srt8. I bought it a few months ago and I have only 4800 miles on it. I have driven primarily on suburban roads and highways. I to have never seem this type of damage on all the cars I have ever owned.

I took my car into Rockland Jeep and they sent a claim into Jeep, but Jeep declined to take responsibility for the problem and declined the claim.

I have a 13 jeep srt...deep cherry with 6k miles and 0 damage. It has to be the roads where u live. Did you guys add any waxes or sealants to the paint to help protect it?

Re: Paint Rock Chip Damage is Extreme

Its not an issue of waxes. I have had my car detailed and the paint is being sand blasted. I live in Rockland county NY with is just 30 miles north of NYC. Where do you live and where do you drive your srt8? When I took my srt into the dealer one of the mechanics had a red srt and upon inspection it had the same damage to the paint.
