Re: Pano Roof / Sunshade Noises?

Will do. I'll be sure to post after I get the wife to drive me around this weekend, while I sit in back. I'm just praying it's not something that's going to require them having to pull the entire headliner apart to correct.

Re: Pano Roof / Sunshade Noises?

OK, that's three of us. At least I don't feel so bad now. Misery loves company.

Seriously though, I'll post over the weekend if I'm able to find where mine is coming from, and would appreciate it if you'd do the same.

I know what you mean about it "driving you nuts"! I CAN'T STAND IT!!

And now that I'm aware of it, it's all I can hear.

Re: Pano Roof / Sunshade Noises?

FOUND IT!!

OK guys, I hope yours will be as easy. Sat in the back seat this morning while my wife was driving. Didn't take long to hear the annoying squeaky, creaky, plastic-y "rattling" sound. At first, I thought it was coming from the black plastic cross bar running from side to side, but after touching/holding that piece, determined that wasn't it.

Starting putting my ear to various places on the inside of the roof, getting closer and closer to the sound, and found that it was coming from the stationary part of the pano-roof above the passengers side rear door. *(This was all done with the sunroof in the "closed position").

I then placed my hands in the space between the actual stationary section of the pano-roof above the passengers side rear door, and track/rail the the sunroof rides and, exerted a little pressure "spreading them apart", and PRESTO..........the noise STOPPED!!

What's ever more amazing, is that after I exerted the pressure on these areas, even after I removed my hands, the noise WAS GONE for the entire ride home!

Now, I obviously don't know if it's going to return after driving a bit, and opening and closing the sunroof and sunshade, but it appears to me (with my minimal mechanical expertise), that it's nothing more than some brand new plastic parts, "getting comfortable".

Hope this helps. Definitely post if you find your noise and if it's the same.

Re: Pano Roof / Sunshade Noises?

We finally got a break in the rain so I could listen better. I think I fixed mine in a slightly different way (but more lasting than my wife's solution of turning up the stereo...)
At the back of the pano roof opening the headliner is held in place with small push pin retainer clips. Several (3) of mine were not snapped or pushed into place. When I started poking and pulling I heard one snap into place. I then started checking the headliner around the back of the pano opening and had 2 more pop into place. I took if for a test drive, and perfectly quiet! Yeah!!! All is good again.

Re: Pano Roof / Sunshade Noises?

I hope this input helps but I THINK the problem lies with some sort of velcro attachment between the headliner and the roof. I have the SAME thing with my WK and it drives me nuts. It creaks and rattles even when the Jeep isn't moving (but running) and if I press on the headliner, it tends to go away.

I think the sounds I hear are the individual attachments within the velcro strips clicking apart... if that makes sense.

Great news, and nice troubleshooting.

Not very nice factory QA, tho.

Can you see them? How did you determine where they are and where to "push"?

I just started pushing and pulling looking for something that might be loose. If you grab on the headliner where the sunshade retracts back into the headliner, you can feel/hear them unsnap and pop back in when you push on them. It didn't take a lot of pressure either way.

Re: Pano Roof / Sunshade Noises?

I knew it was too good to be true.

My "rattle" has returned. Have checked all the clips and can't find anything that appears to be loose or not connected.

If I reach into the back seat while driving (no....not safe lol), and place my hand between the pano-roof and headliner above the passengers side rear door, I can get it to stop.

I can see there are three screws in the rail at this point, but are obviously some kind of hex-head for which I don't have the correct tool. Not that I'm even sure they're loose. Just hunting for a solution to this very frustrating noise!

Re: Pano Roof / Sunshade Noises?

Such a shame. I LOVE this truck, but why does there have to always be one, nagging thing to make the ownership experience less than perfect?

Been living with this noise, and simply afraid to bring it in to the dealer, for fear they're only going to ruin something else in the process.

Re: Pano Roof / Sunshade Noises?

Little update. Don't know if it's my imagination or not, but the rattle in the headliner/pano-roof by the passengers side rear, seems to be happening less frequently.

Interesting that now that the weather's in the 90', and really heating up, that the noise seems to be deminishing. Hmmm....wonder if something's heating up/expanding that's causing the rattle to subside?
