Panoramic Sunroof Rattle--Trim

Hello. I have been trying to diagnose a slight rattle coming from my panoramic sunroof. I've checked the headliner and found no loose fasteners and it isn't severe enough to sound like it's coming from the frame. As far as I can tell, it sounds like the plastic trim piece that runs laterally across the inside roof and covers the joint between the two panes is vibrating when I run over a series of small bumps. The dealer tried stuffing some insulating material inside the trim but the vibration hasn't stopped, so I'm doing some sleuthing.

Attached is a picture showing the inside of the trim panel looking from the outside in with the sunroof cracked open in the vent position. The white strip is the insulation the dealer stuffed in there. But I also see a small white disc that looks like it might be residual adhesive, perhaps from some sort of bumper. I was hoping someone with a panoramic sunroof could crack open the vent and look for me to confirm.

If what I'm seeing in the photo is normal, and there is no bumper, has anyone else experienced a similar vibration/rattle from the trim piece? Were you able to fix it? Thanks in advance for your help

I have the same rattle and also wondering if it's coming from the same location. It only occurs over bumps.

Re: Panoramic Sunroof Rattle--Trim

There is a tsb on the 2014's for the glass on the stationary part of the roof rattling. I had my rear roof glass replaced under this tsb a few months ago and it took care of the rattle.

Thanks. I am aware of the TSB. It's this one:

It doesn't apply to my vehicle based on the manufacturing dates and the rattle I hear doesn't sound like the one described in the tsb. Mine sounds like the trim piece, not a structural defect.

Yep thats the tsb. I thought at first mine was just the trim as it would make like a click noise over bumps. I found while having someone ride in the back seat if they pushed on the glass it would stop. The rear glass is in a metal frame and its sealed all the way around with silicone. So I think the issue was not enough silicone used caused the glass to creek in the frame.

Interesting. But I'm not really hearing a click. It's more of a vibration and its intermittent. It's hard to isolate because I can't get it to vibrate consistently. I also can't replicate it by pushing or tapping on the rear glass panel as described in the tsb. Was your vehicle within the build dates described in the tsb? My dealer originally wanted to replace the entire frame because mine wasn't covered by the tsb but that has me spooked because of the possibility of future leaks.

Yes mine was within the build dates. To replace that glass on mine the entire roof assembly had to be removed. They did a good job though I have not had any problems.
