Seems like it's getting worse and only when the sunroof is open. I think it's only a pano issue for me, not the headliner.

I would like to give GeorgeMD's home fix a try. Any other tips on that adjustment for the pano? I guess I am wondering about how long it took, did you need to remove the headliner, was a special screw driver required, any concern about leaking with the adjustment? Thanks!
The adjustment takes 10-15 min or even less. You don't need to remove the headliner and it doesn’t require any special screw driver (I used a standard screw driver bit setto get this job done). There is no leaking in the panoramic roof after adjustment because it's just really small.

Here's an additional a step-by-step guide to fix this rattle:
1. Make marks inside and outside of pano roof (both left and right sides) to see how much you moved glass panel forward. (see pictures)
2. Put panoramic roof in vent position
3. Loosen slightly all screws that are holding the big unmovable portion of the pano roof (see pictures) I used the TORX screw driver bit.
4. Push the pano roof slightly forward on both sides (picture shows only one side). You need to use the original (Slotted) screw drive for this.
5. Check how much you moved the pano roof forward, based on your marks. It should be moved just 1/32 or 1/16 of an inch (1 or 1.5 mm).
6. Tighten up all screws.
7. Close the pano roof and see how tight the connection between two pano roof parts. If you over tighten them, you can make readjustment.

I hope it helps. Please let me know if you need any additional details.

Regards,
George

Yes, but the quality of picture is not good. I'll try to take another one. It's really small space there to get a good picture, but I will try anyways.

Re: panoramic sunroof rattles

After investigating more, my rattle I was able to isolate it just to the front of the sunroof, as if it was in the headliner. When I put pressure up against the headliner there is no rattle. Also, the rattle goes away when the sunroof is open (not in vent).

Just took my Grand Cherokee into the dealer today. Took the supervisor out in it and he was able to hear the rattle as well. They identified it as coming from the sunroof cables that were loose. Said they just had to secure them down somehow. Had to remove the headliner only over the driver's side.

So, in one afternoon with the dealer, the car sounds great (rattle-free) for now and has no apparent damage or grease from the headliner removal...just a little debris on the stearing column and wheel.

Re: panoramic sunroof rattles

George MD........thanks for the information. What is the original "slotted drive" to move the unmoveable portion of the sunroof forward. I apprecialte your response.

Thanks

Gordon

Re: panoramic sunroof rattles

my issue is not the actual glass but the headliner connectors just behind the pano roof. I've considered using some type of adhesive between the velco pieces but at the same time don't want it to be a mess if the liner ever needs to be removed.

Re: panoramic sunroof rattles

I fixed mine, at least for now. I had several minor rattles and one _major_ rattle.

The major rattle came from right around rear seat driver's side grab handle. It seemed to vary in based on temperature. It didn't occur with the sunroof open. It would resonate on the highway sometimes, which was the most annoying. It of course rattled over every bump. It sometimes wouldn't ocrrue as a result of an impulse, but when the vehicle body was torqued (like coming diagonally off my driveway), and it would kind of rattle once. It sounded kind of like metal-glass contact meaning the glass panel itself was transmitting most of the sound.

To fix it I started looking around the edges of the fixed glass panel, but I certainly didn't find anything "loose". Pressing on various things would definitely quiet it, but I still couldn't isolate it. I had to hit it myself to cause the rattle, so it was difficult to pinpoint the location at the same time. I even tried putting a reciprocating jigsaw on top of a board on the roof to try to get it to continuously rattle-- no luck. I unfastened the duo-lock velcro stuff and took off the grab handle. I couldn't see anything in there that was loose. The wiring harness was covered in cloth (to specifically prevent this kind of thing). I was suspicious of the return sunroof cable, but I couldn't find it. I was about to start taking off trim panels to drop the headliner when I figured I should at least take off the fixed glass panel just because it was easy to do and could help in one way or another.

Loosening the torx bolts, moving it around a little, lining it up on the roof, then retightening the bolts solved my issue. No messing with the headliner was necessary. All the rattles from the panoramic roof are gone for now. I didn't bother marking the location of the panel or anything. If the sunroof was put together with the same "precision" as the rest of the interior, the original assembly position was useless anyway.

I don't think that my rattle has anything to do with contact between the fixed and the sliding sunroof panel. It seems there is a rubber seal between them that would prevent the volume of rattle I was hearing. I think my rattle came from the metal mounting plates contacting the glass panel. These plates don't appear to be glued. They appear to be affixed with soft mounting tape-- probably to give it some freedom and prevent the shattering that seems common now in other makes. I'm guessing my panel was under some stress and somehow contacting the mounting plates in a place there wasn't mounting tape.

If it happens again I'll probably try the same fix. It takes under 2 minutes. If it happens another time after that I'll probably take off the bolts completely and remove the panel to diagnose further.

Maybe this will help somebody.

Sunroof Rattle Solved-Temporarily

After trying all of the solutions offered on this board, I took Big Red (wife's car) to the dealer to diagnose the sunroof rattle. I let them keep the car for 5 days with "please figure it out and fix it". Received a call back from the dealer informing us that they could, indeed, hear the rattle coming from the sunroof area. However, they were unable to fix it. They informed us that this issue was being dealt with by Chrysler engineering and that a TSB would be forthcoming..........possibly as long as six months from now.

Frustrated, I brought the car back home. I rembered eliminating the creeeek by pulling down on the sunroof track while my wife drove. My fix was to insert a piece of felt (like what you use on furniture for hardwood floors-coasters) between the sunroof track and the sunroof itself. This piece was inserted vertically. Also, I wedged two pieces of a credit card between the glass and the metal frame of the sunroof. These two fixes were at the very back of the glass sunroof on the driver side. The sunroof vent and sunroof blind continue to work as normal. The sunroof itself will retract to the point that it would run into the vertically mounted piece of heavy felt. Sooooooooo we have no more CREAKKKS until the engineers come up with a real fix.

Hope this helps some of you with the annoying CREEEAK.

Re: panoramic sunroof rattles

Well, even though it may be six months out, I think it's encouraging the Chrysler is aware of the problem and working on a TSB. At least that means it's been acknowledged!

Re: Sunroof Rattle Solved-Temporarily

Count me in on the same issue, exact same location. I think that the issue is between the glass and the metal frame above it, and/ or the metal cover that holds it from below (forming a metal/ glass/ metal sandwich). There needs to be a better gasket or sealant between the metal and glass. I'm think if I tighten up on one or more of the screws holding the sandwich together I might stop the squeak, but I learned my lesson about over-tightening a similar assembly back when I was a teenager working on my rust bucket. One wrong move and you explode the tempered glass and are suddenly sitting in a pile of sharp little stones.

Re: panoramic sunroof rattles

First, I want to thank everyone for the posts over the past 12 months. I have spent the better part of the past hour and a half reading everyone's issues and potential resolutions.

Just purchased a 2013 GC with panoramic sunroof and am experiencing the dreaded rattle around the passenger-side rear seat in the sunroof/headliner. The car has 325 miles on it and I am obviously hesitant like others to even take the car to the dealer to have the issue addressed. Should I man up and do it or wait until the TSB from Chrysler is issued? The noise is driving me mental and honestly don't know if I can wait that long. Again, I appreciate everyone's posts.

Re: panoramic sunroof rattles

Funny, (not really) that's EXACTLY where the rattle is coming from on my 2011 Overland. Like you, my rattle was there from the day the vehicle was Brand New! I've been afraid to have my headliner torn apart at the dealer and have lived with it from close to 2 years now! I can't believe a 2013 is coming through with the same exact problem, and Chrysler hasn't addressed/fixed this issue yet.
