I can't believe a 2013 is coming through with the same exact problem, and Chrysler hasn't addressed/fixed this issue yet.
It is unreal this issue persists in 3 model years worth of GCs. The noise is faint but it is loud enough for my wife and I to notice it, and goes away when the sunroof is open. Is this similar for you?

So far I am not off to a good start with my first Jeep. Car was delivered with two scratches that were easily buffed and a rear driver-side door that doesn't close flush.

Re: panoramic sunroof rattles

No, not exactly. Mine never really "goes totally away". It does seem to change with different positions of the roof and sunshade, but (as I'm sure you can relate), once you've heard it, you just keep listening for it......and there it is!

What makes the problem even worse, is the interior of the vehicle is (otherwise) so damn quiet, and the fit and finish so nice, that it's just a real shame that friggin' rattle has to be there. Because the cabin is so quiet, it stands out even more.

I agree - the cabin is so quiet other than the rattle. It is a shame that I am now relegated to drive around with the radio off listening for the faintest rattle

I opened the sunroof today while I was driving and closed it 2 minutes later. As I continued to drive the rattle went away. I could not recreate the rattle after I did this. Has anyone else experienced this? Should I just expect the rattle to "come back" sooner rather than later? Thanks.

Re: panoramic sunroof rattles

I've had brief "hopeful" moments when I thought it might be gone.....but then it's back. I wouldn't bet on a "rattle" just going away for good unfortunately.

Re: panoramic sunroof rattles

Mine is doing the same thing but it is very loud. Already been at the dealer once and not fixed going back Monday. It makes the vehicle not enjoyable to drive.

Re: panoramic sunroof rattles

I bought a 2013 Grand Cherokee Limited in September and the rattles are relentless and maddening. It absolutely ruins my enjoyment in driving the vehicle. I admire the initiative and ingenuity of those who have taken it upon themselves to try to fix the problem by tinkering with the roof themselves, but I'm afraid to try that lest I make the problem worse or cause the roof to leak. I can't believe that there hasn't been a corporate fix for this yet. I am particularly irritated that the salesman who sold me the vehicle was fully aware of the issue but didn't tell me. The reason I know this is that I had originally mentioned that I wanted a sunroof on the new vehicle, not knowing about the panoramic roof. The salesman got me a quote on a vehicle with a sunroof, and there was a credit on the sticker for something like $500.00. When I asked him about it, he said that it was a reduction in the sticker price because the panoramic roof is priced in for the Limited, so if you get just a sunroof, you get a credit because a sunroof is cheaper than the pano roof, which is standard on the Limited. When I asked him why he didn't mention the panoramic roof when I asked for a sunroof, he said something to the effect that the panoramic roof is new and he doesn't like to recommend a new option until they get the kinks out. Due to a color preference, I unfortunately ended up with a vehicle with a panoramic roof. Now that I know the panoramic roof has been around for 3 model years and has had problems all along, I can see that the salesman was being less than honest. It would be great to have a nice, quiet, plain vanilla sunroof rather than this bucket of loose parts strapped to the top of my new jeep. This reminds me of the bad old days when American cars were so poorly put together that legions of buyers fled to Japanese and German options. I thought those days were behind us, but apparently not. Chrysler should be all over this, but, since the problem has persisted for 3 model years, they obviously aren't. All of us that have panoramic roof problems should be in touch with the corporation-- not just a dealership-- to demand a fix.
Sorry about the rant, but this really bothers me.

Re: panoramic sunroof rattles

I wish the pano roof or even the regular sunroof was optional on my current Overland and on my ordered 14 Summit because I certainly would have skipped that option since I have no use for the thing.

Re: panoramic sunroof rattles

Very sad that Chrysler hasn't stepped up to the plate on this issue in three model years!! My 2011 Overland Pano has made noise / rattled since the very first day I drove it. It comes and goes. We've dealt with it by ignoring it & turning up the radio. After reading all the horror stories here about others "attempts at having the dealer play with it and TRY to correct it", that hasn't been an option for us.

Re: panoramic sunroof rattles

I have been to the dealer on this issue and they assure me that there will be a TSB issued. They have no idea when. I also called the SRT Concierge and formally made a complaint. I have not heard back from anyone. Frustrated, I have temporarily solved the issue. I have used pieces of felt (furniture sliders), cut them in rectanges and wedged them vertically between the pano roof and the pano rails at the very back of the sunroof. No more rattle! While you can move the shade all the way back with no interference, you cannot do the same with the pano roof....just a partial open so that you do not knock the felt off. Hope that this can bring some temporary relief to the huge CREAKS coming from the pano roof area.

Re: panoramic sunroof rattles

My 2012 came with 4 rattles. One from the glove box, one from the passenger seat, one on the part where the seat belt comes out that sits next to my left ear, and finally the headliner to the sun roof. I was able to fix the glove box with some rubber strips, I was able to fix the passenger seat belt part by wedging the seat belt receiver against the side of the seat, and the belt that come out next to my ear, again used some rubber so it doesn't vibrate.

The sun roof headliner rattle, though, only occurs when it's closed, so to fix it I just open it all the way when I drive. I don't mind that because I enjoy the sun beaming in on me. That's why I wanted the sunroof to begin with.

Re: panoramic sunroof rattles

Well mine is supposed to be ready today but isn't and has been at the dealer since Monday after not fixing the issue last week. They told me they had to order a new roof rail and that should fix the issue at this point I am doubtful but I guess we will see once I get it back. When I was trying to figure out where the noise was coming from it seemed pressing on the pan roof causes the creaking noise. The problem is it can't be reproduced at the same place. I press in one spot makes the noise press again it doesn't. Press in another spot does it again then not and so on. Makes me think it is something with the way the pano roof is installed with the frame and why it makes the creaking sounds when the vehicle hits a bump or makes a turn.

Re: panoramic sunroof rattles

And it's exactly stories like these, that have kept me from bringing the car to a dealer service department for this issue!
