When I was trying to figure out where the noise was coming from it seemed pressing on the pan roof causes the creaking noise. The problem is it can't be reproduced at the same place. I press in one spot makes the noise press again it doesn't. Press in another spot does it again then not and so on. Makes me think it is something with the way the pano roof is installed with the frame and why it makes the creaking sounds when the vehicle hits a bump or makes a turn.
This is why I have such a problem with dealership mechanics. They seem to be unable to diagnose a problem that isn't written down in some corporate manual. All they ever do is replace stuff that they guess might be a problem.

The creaking is clearly due to the glass against some part of the metal frame, and some rubber gasket between them not being thick enough or not properly isolating a connector. Replacing a bunch of crap isn't going to fix it.

If it starts getting bad on mine I plan on probing and prodding until I can isolate the area, then loosening the associated connectors, prying the metal away from the glass, squeezing in some clear silicone, letting it cure and then carefully re-tightening the fasteners.

Re: panoramic sunroof rattles

We finally got the GC back last night and the creaking sound is gone so they did something. I am not sold that it is fixed yet only because we had the vehicle for a few months before it ever made the noise. Only time will tell if it is truly fixed but at least for now we have some relief. The noise was so distracting we didn't even take the new GC on vacation instead opting to take my Ford F-150... I love almost everything about my wife's GC and hope this problem is resolved. Will SEE...

Re: panoramic sunroof rattles

Regular sunroof on my '12 is just fine. I stopped by this thread to see how the Pano roof issues are going and I'm not impressed. Planning to order a '14 soon and I think I'll have to go for the Limited without the Lux package in order to get the regular sunroof again.

Re: panoramic sunroof rattles

I also just purchased a 2013 Jeep GC Limited with pano roof. Creaks like crazy, above the rear passenger door.Such a beautiful, well mannered car, quiet, just incredible, AND THAT NOISE IS DRIVING ME INSANE. Picked it up Oct.25,now have 7000 miles. I have spent so many trips in the back CARGO AREA WITH MY WIFE DRIVING AND ME LOOKING FOR THE CREEK. i OILED THE DOOR HINGES THINKING THE HINGES WERE DRY AND IT WAS a creek TRAVELING THROUGHOUT THE CAR. i CAN'T TELL YOU HOW MANY HOURS i HAVE SPENT TRYING TO FIND THAT CREAK. Going to the dealer on Thurs. 2/28 to replace the frame etc. tHE FIRST TIME A MECHANIC TOOK A RIDE WITH ME IT DID NOT MAKE A SOUND. i WANTED TO GET A HATCHET AND SMASH IT. i DROVE HIM BACK TO THE DEALER AND TOLD HIM i WOULD NOT TAKE IT HOME. tHEY HAD TO DRIVE IT. Called me after 4 hours and said come pick it up we cant hear anything. My wife took me down, I'm pulling out of the lot and its creaking very loud a mile a minute. I turned around and ran into the service area and told them to take a ride with me. Sure enough it was singing loud and clear and they said it needed to be replaced, every time it creaked the technition could feel it in the glass. It was sitting in the sun and that's when it is the loudest when it warms up. The service manager did say they had a TSB or a bulliten on it from Chrysler, and that's what it suggested. They tried to shim it the first time as the TSB suggested but did not work. Gosh I sure hope they put it together correctly. They seem like a good bunch of guys. A small town dealer that has been here for many decades and well spoken of. BUT, I'm kind of nervous about it. They said to do it right they would like 1-1/2 days and would drive me home and pick me up, and give me a loaner if needed. My first somewhat luxary car in my life and this situation spoils the new car excitement. I will let you all know how I make out. Seems like such a gamble but I can't stand the noise.

Re: panoramic sunroof rattles

Funny, mine's been really quiet all winter during the cold. I thought (prayed) it had finally "settled in" and was gone. Today, weather warmed up to 40 degrees, and guess what? Rattle's BACK!!!

Re: panoramic sunroof rattles

This is exactly what mine is doing. Weather got up to 50 today and clicking noise over passenger rear door got much worse. Only happens on certain bumps. Dealer has already replace fixed portion of glass twice. I am very frustrated. This has been going on for 9 months and I am very tired of it. From what I see on this site a lot of people are having exact same problem. I don't want to leave my vehicle at dealership because it's very difficult to duplicate. Jeep needs to correct this situation NOW!

Re: panoramic sunroof rattles

I'd like to hear if Paul Bernard had any luck with his dealer as mentioned in his 26 Feb post. This is my first Jeep and I really love this vehicle but the noise is totally ruining the experience. This was a very big purchase for me and I'm having regrets. With so many people having the exact same experience I cannot imagine Jeep hasn't figured this out. Hopefully Paul Bernard had some luck with his dealership that he can pass on to the rest of us. I know it's probably something very simple if only it could be identified.

Re: panoramic sunroof rattles

Hey all, first post - hopefully of many. I don't own a JGC, yet, but hopefully will in the next week or so. I do, however, own an Audi wagon with a pano roof. I've had similar issues. Here's a thread on my problems: Avant Pano Sunroof Creak.

Fortunately, it did finally settle in completely and go away completely. No issues at all. Unfortunately, this is common place. Audi's Q5 and Q7, as well as Benz's ML's have these problems. It'll settle down eventually. I know that isn't a consolation, but it's the truth. Google ML and pano roof and you'll see all the commentary and issues. I guess it shouldn't be surprising that the WK2 has the same issues.

Re: panoramic sunroof rattles

Well Guys, their is hope. After 4 month's of total agrivation I got my jeep delivered on Friday afternoon and it is DEAD QUIET !!!! NO CREAKS.....NONE AT ALL. I drove it Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and today. Drove it cold, hot, and everyway that would make it CREAK and the noise is gone. I am so happy. I was very concerned it would not be put together just perfectly as before I took it in, but they did a fantastic job. I studied every joint, every appearance of how it was put together and they must have had a fussy guy or guys doing the job. What they replaced was the frame, not the glass. Needless to say the roof liner had to get dropped down, pull out the old assembly, take it apart, install new gaskets, and the new frame which is a different design than the original so I'm told, and it all got put back together. The shade, movable glass, all works as it did before I took it in. It was spotless, all cleaned very well. Dropped it off Thursday at 8 am, and they delivered it Friday at 2:30 pm. The noise is gone. I haven't even herd a tiny creak.....its gone. I enjoyed driving my NEW "lol" Jeep GC Limited this weekend and honestly, I might go for another drive tonight. I'm like a kid with a new toy. At almost $4 a gal. i've spent some money this weekend but it was so worth it. I'm sorry I don't have more detailed mechanical info but I don't have a copy of the work order yet but when I do get it in the next day or two I'll share the info from it if it has anything more I haven't told you. Get the creak to make the noise and get over to the Dealer and get someone to go for a ride with you and have them hear it. Make the appointment, Get it done. Its not worth the agrivation and stress.
