Re: panoramic sunroof rattles

Yadkin, Could you cancel your Zuric extended warranty and use the refund to buy from a dealer (Zeigler) on the internet at a discounted price which would be the Chrysler warranty.

That's a good idea. But since I have 57k miles on the vehicle now I won't get much of a refund. I'm seriously considering just trading in. The Ecodiesel should save me $600/ year in fuel costs.

Live and learn. By the time I'm 100 I'll be knowledgeable enough not to get ripped off ever again.

Re: panoramic sunroof rattles

Yadkin, I know each state is different but in Florida the refund is based on length of time and if you have used the extended warranty. Even if you get a new vehicle I would take my original warranty paper work to the finance person at the dealer you purchased from and the odometer statement for the new vehicle,(procedure in Florida), and ask for a refund or possibly call Zurich direct. Depending on how much you paid initially the refund could be more than you think. Good luck and a new vehicle sounds like a great ideal. We had a 2012 and traded for a 2014 and just love it.

Re: panoramic sunroof rattles

I looked carefully at the rear panel and found misalignment of the rubber seal adjacent to where the worst noise is. To me, that's an obvious manufacturing defect, so it should be covered. I have an appointment at the dealer next Thursday.

That's a good move. I believe you now have a legitimate claim. Hope it works in your favor. Mine was diagnosed as a "bad frame-defective". They replaced the frame and all is quiet. Whatever they want to call it, its a defect that needs to be fixed by Chrysler at a NO CHARGE. Its not like no one had the problem. I'm sure you'll let us know. Good luck !

Zurich still won't cover it. What a piece of crap that company is.

Re: panoramic sunroof rattles

Hello GC-WK2 Owners;

This is my follow up to my previous post on this forum topic.

Finally after a year of contemplating it, I had the dealer fix the pano-roof under the TSB. Yes, I too had all the same apprehensions about letting them take/tear down the headliner which is why I waited so long, but it was either that, or drive around this $48k Overland that sounded worse than my rental Dart!! So I bit the bullet and scheduled the appointment with my Dealer.

Now, it wasn't all smooth by any means, because of their crap job scheduling practices with their Machines, they ended up keeping my Grand Cherokee for 6-days; but did provide me a loaner. According to Chrysler, the job should take a day or less, but the Mechanic ended up tearing the sunshade and damaging the rear cross drain bracket, so additional parts had to be ordered; I know Mechanics are human and shit happens!! Trust me when I say I was fairly pissed by all this, but they did provide me car to drive (which most Jeep dealers around here don't), and I just kept my eye on the anticipated outcome of no rattles.

Finally after a week at the Dealership, I got it back, but found the (new) power sun shade wasn't calibrated and wouldn't park in the correct positions! After a second quick visit to have the calibration done, the pano-roof is now ALL perfect with no rattling, creaking, or popping sounds!!!

Lastly, there were just a few minor finger print stains to clean, but nothing those Clorox wipes couldn't remove (those things work really great on the light color headliner.)

So, after all is said and now done, I'm really very happy with the new pano-roof assembly and once again love driving my quiet Grand Cherokee...and proud to have others ride with me without feeling the need to explain all rattle noises from the roof (or keep the radio volume up so they can't hear it!!)

My advice: its a really big job and not ever Dealer has experience doing these, so there may be some minor bumps to deal with, but have it done, you'll really be glad you did!!

Re: panoramic sunroof rattles

Congrats to you. I know exactly how you feel and its great! I still feel the same way. My shade did not park in the same place as before the job was done, but it is only less than an inch of where it stopped before the job was completed. I had no problem living with that. For all intent and purpose its fully opened. I have 45,000 on my jeep now, and nothing has gone wrong with it. Runs like a top. I keep it detailed all the time and people still come up to me and ask questions about it, and tell me what a beautiful car it is. If you look around at other new SUV's, you will notice a lot of characteristics that have been taken from the WK2 style. Glad you got it fixed, enjoy your "new" ride.

Hi Paul,

The (re)calibration programming to correct/adjust the park positions for the power sun shade was a very quick job for the Dealer to complete, maybe at your next service visit add that on too; didn't take long at all!

Good luck!

Re: panoramic sunroof rattles

I wrote a letter to my dealer saying how nice my service rep and salesman were, but stating that I had this problem and had notified their staff verbally prior to the 36,000 mile ChryCo warranty period and why I waited until near the end of the 60,000 Zurich warranty period to ask to have it done, and stated firmly that I wasn't happy with being sold a Zurich "bumper to bumper" policy at all. The dealer bumped it up to corporate and they agreed to fix it. Now I'm just waiting for them to schedule.

I'm not sure if they are forcing Zurich to pay out or what. But I'll find out...

Re: panoramic sunroof rattles

ChyCo paid to replace the frame, and my dealer took two days for the install. Zurich paid for one day of car rental (those bastards).
