Re: panoramic sunroof rattles

Mine rattles both open and closed, vent mode or full sunroof mode. Sounds more pronounced when it's open. Goes away when sunroof is open only half way. I think it's coming from the "track" over the passengers side rear door, NOT the glass.

Re: panoramic sunroof rattles

Mine does the same but only sometimes... Hasnt done it in 2 days... Im fighting a horrible vibrating in the pass side dash though... Its way worse and only starts after at least a 4 hour drive and above 80mph... U can imagine the dealers response to that one... No help there... And man is it loud... Need to put the video on youtube lol

Re: panoramic sunroof rattles

A vibration that loud shoud be easily traceable. Have a passenger feel around the dash and in the glove box for vibrations. Sounds like something is loose.

Re: panoramic sunroof rattles

Ah, the old dashboard buzz. My experience in previous vehicles is that it is caused by the plastic dash components contracting and expanding during cold weather. They rub and make the noise. I have resolved it by pushing and/or banging with my hand at the offending area. Also though it could be a loose speaker virbrating in its mount, but I do not know how they are mounted in the JGC.

Re: panoramic sunroof rattles

found it finally... was hard to diagnose anything when i was in the middle of my MN trip and back... all i could do was beat on the dash and pull up little parts of plastic but didnt do a thing... i noticed it did it when i got wind blowing the jeep on the pass side... so i looked outside and the plastic was popped out in two places... popped it back in and was good the rest of the 6 hours... so i guess its good to go! stupid cowl plastic was making it sound like it was from the dash... lol... i actually am thinking the outside vibration was causing the vibration on the inside cause i could hear to different ones it sounded like... now to stop the sunroof from rattling... but its not all the time either... lol

Re: panoramic sunroof rattles

back on the topic of the rattling panoramic roof - have you been able to get that fixed? My Overland has 2100 miles and super annoyingly just started to do this. It seems to me that the pop up wind deflector is related as the rattle starts as soon as the closing glas panel contacts spring-metal straps which hold up the deflector. if anyone has gotten their's fixed at the dealer, do you know what they did? I am anxious to get this fixed, but as others have said, I don't want dealer techs ripping out my headliner

Re: panoramic sunroof rattles

Same problem here. Specially during winter, it also makes twisted noise.

Re: panoramic sunroof rattles

Funny, mine seems less during winter. Personally, I think these all may be different, unrelated rattles.

Re: panoramic sunroof rattles

I think you are right - there are many noises possible with the panorama roof. Mine is definitely not currently making noise at the back of the sliding glass panel where some have found missing insulation.
Mine is definitely the wind deflector. If I totally open the glass, no noise. If I close it until the wind deflector just starts to come down, it rattles and I can see the deflector shake a little - I can make it happen just by closing the door, which is handy. then i can reach up and hold the deflector tightly down as if the sunroof is closed, and the noise stops. However, with the glass panel fully closed the noise is there. I'm guessing when the door slams or the car hits a bump, there's enough flex in those metal strips that hold the deflector that the vibration carries through it and at the same time the glass panel does not fit against it tightly enough to prevent it from vibrating. I am going to see what happens if i hold a little bit of foam rubber in place while I close the glass.

Re: panoramic sunroof rattles

I can get the vibration to go away by inserting card board on top of the wind deflector - by holding it there while its closing. have to be careful not to trip the 'pinch protection' or it will automatically open all the way up. anyway - with cardboard wedged in there above the drivers head it does not vibrate when shutting the door. Next weekend I will look into whether the deflector can be adjusted or if I can apply some pliable but thick material either to the deflector, to its base (maybe behind the fabric so it can't be seen, or to the edge of the glass panel... will post if it works. Otherwise will have to take it to the dealership (shudder).

Re: panoramic sunroof rattles

I cannot adjust the deflector myself and have not been able to get it to stop rattling using foam rubber as a dampener - i put s strip of it in the sunroof between the deflector and the edge of the sunroof opening. made an appointment to bring it in for service on Wednesday. Man I hope they don't jack up my headliner! The rattle is getting a lot worse now - opening or closing any door makes it rattle, any bump makes it rattle, and it now makes noise from behind and in front of me. it sounds like the entire sunroof assembly needs to be tightened or the insulation/sound dampening around the entire thing was left off.

Re: panoramic sunroof rattles

Fixed by dealer on 1/25.

The problem was the sunroof cable drive tubes were rattling. these were tightened down and extra foam backing was added around them. Headliner had to be removed to do this, thankfully it seems re-installed correctly and i dont see any greasy fingerprints on it. yea! all is well again with my overland. and it only took half a day!
