Re: panoramic sunroof rattles

So it's due time for a quick update from me... I've been dealing with my issue for nearly a year now. About 30 days ago, I had one of those moments, reach out one more time and decide if keeping the vehicle was going to happen. So I reached out to Chrysler Executive support teams for my issues, including my rattling pano roof. The executive care team was incredibly helpful and responsive. I'm sad I had to go that route to get good help, but it worked.

So they flew out two engineers from Detroit to take a look at my sunroof and one other in the area experiencing the same issues. On the first day, they couldn't get it to happen, even after about 100 miles of test driving. The second day, I showed up at the dealer first thing, told them do not move the vehicle. We did our tests, and bam, we got the rattle. Both engineers replicated it and within two days, it was fixed. (FYI, mine could be replicated by simply closing the right or left rear doors)

It's been about two weeks now and so far, no rattle. I'm hoping that this, the fourth attempt is the last. They were able to fix lots of issues, pano roof rattle, rattling head rests (so get this, apparently an executive at Chrysler with a WK2 had the same head rest issue), and others. Still no fix for my seemingly poor performance though!

Anyway, All I could get out of them was that there were two bolts holding the pano roof frame to the chassis that were damaged or improperly installed, and some issues in the frame/track it self. Pieced everything back together, and so far so good.

I've also had some issues with my rear liftgate. It made groaning and popping noises when I'd go over something like a speed bump or curb. That was fixed by removing the trim piece where the liftgate latch is, loosening the two bolts holding the electric latch in place. We then pulled the latch in towards the front of the vehicle as much as possible, this holds the glass in place much tighter. Groaning and popping gone.

If anyone wants help with the executive response teams, please PM me.

which dealership in md did you take it to? my 12 jeep has been making a creeking and rattle noise from the pano roof since the second day i've had it. Taken it back to Don Whites in timonium they supposively tightened down a nut. It was quiet for about 2 weeks. now the noise is even worse. I can be driving down a perfectly smooth road and the roof makes a creek noise almost constantly. Taking it back to them on friday

Re: panoramic sunroof rattles

Hello everyone,

I started this post 11 month ago with a big frustration about the rattles from the panoramic roof. My dealership offered to replace the entire panoramic roof, but I didn’t want them tearing my jeep apart, so I worked on fixing it myself and I’m so happy about it. I’ll try to explain to you how I’ve done this and I hope that you guys can do this too.

Firs of all, this is not related to all rattles in the pano roof. In my case it was rattles from the headliner and from the glass panels (only if the roof is closed).

The headliner rattles.
The headliner rattles can be fixed by inserting small peace of rubber between the headliner’s clips and pockets where clips are sitting. The clips were not unclipped, the rattles were coming from the clip’s pocket, and the clips were rattling inside the pocket.

The panoramic roof rattles.
There are obviously several different things, causing several different rattles. In my case, rattles were coming from the glass, where two parts of the glass connect with each other. This connection should be tight enough to keep these parts together. It was rattles only when roof is closed.
It can be fixed by adjusting the unmovable part of the roof. You should put panoramic roof in vent position and than you need to loosen slightly all screws that are holding the big unmovable portion of the pano roof (I believe there are 8 screws there) and move this portion of the roof slightly forward. It should be moved just 1/32 or 1/16 of an inch (1 or 1.5 mm). After that you should tighten up all screws back. The idea is to regain a tight connection between two pano roof parts.

Please let me know if you like to see some pictures of how to do this, because this explanation might not be so clear.

I do not have any rattles since I’ve done this. I hope that my experience helps you guys to fix rattles from the panoramic roof, at least some of them.

Kind regards,

George

Re: panoramic sunroof rattles

George,

Thank you for following-up on this...I would be very interested in seeing any pics you might have regarding the headliner fix. I have been dealing with this and do not plan to have my dealer touch it again with fear that they may create additional rattles. I know my issue is coming from a couple clip areas just behind the pano roof.
TIA

Re: panoramic sunroof rattles

Wow, i just read 11 months of discussion on this problem! I bought a slightly used (12K miles) 2011 JGC Limited with the pano roof in August and love it. I do a lot of highway driving and already have it up over 20K miles. Highway driving is fine but I have the same loud rattling as soon as I get off the highway and onto rougher roads. Seems like it's getting worse and only when the sunroof is open. I think it's only a pano issue for me, not the headliner.

I would like to give GeorgeMD's home fix a try. Any other tips on that adjustment for the pano? I guess I am wondering about how long it took, did you need to remove the headliner, was a special screw driver required, any concern about leaking with the adjustment? Thanks!

Re: panoramic sunroof rattles

Oops, I meant that the rattling only occurs when the sunroof is closed. There is no rattle when it is open.

Is the clip that needs a rubber insert in one of the pictures you provided?
