Part Availability for the Brake Booster Recall

So I was trying to get the recall done for my GC and I called up a few dealerships and they all told me that Chrysler is sending one part every 2 weeks for the recall. What is this bullshit they are pulling (excuse my anger for this)? I am in Florida and it doesn't really affect me but I still want to get it done ASAP just so I can know that there isn't something wrong with my GC. Did anyone else get the same response from dealerships saying that we have to wait on a waiting list to get the recall done on our cars? Also does anyone know why they are doing it this way? I think it is a really stupid idea to send one part out every few weeks.

Re: Part Availability for the Brake Booster Recall

Same here. I believe I am number 13 on the list. Was told a few weeks before they get parts in.

That's a lot of parts. This could take a while.

Re: Part Availability for the Brake Booster Recall

I guess they could hire a magician who could pull parts out of thin air. In the real world these things take time. And, if this will take more than a few months, I would hope that Chrysler pays special attention to getting parts to those areas where people really would be affected. Better to save a life than a customer who stamps their feet because they have to wait.

Our Canadian brothers and sisters should be at the top of the list, IMHO

Re: Part Availability for the Brake Booster Recall

I got my letter at least a month after the TSB was posted here. I called 2 weeks ago and was told that they would have to special order the part for me. I gave them ok, I got a call 4-5 days ago and got told the parts were in and scheduled to drop off the car. Dropped the car last night and the service advisers were doubting the veracity of my facts. Called the parts department, is it for me, is it not for me, is it a shield or is it the whole booster, they could not figure it out except that something came for my car for the purposes of this recall. I will have to call them later and find out.

would think that by the time a manufacturer puts out a recall notice, they had already known of the problem for some time, they had devised the solution, ramped up production of the replacement parts and stocked up with them outside of the new production requirements.

Re: Part Availability for the Brake Booster Recall

Got my letter about a month ago and then received a call from the dealer asking me to drop it off for it. I did just that today and was shocked when they told me the part was on backorder. I've had two issues with my WK2 since it was new and both have had back ordered parts.

Re: Part Availability for the Brake Booster Recall

I was told I would have to drive 55 miles to the dealer so they could look at it and if it is determined that the part is required, they would THEN order it and call me to come back (another 55 mile trip to the dealer to have it installed). Love the Jeep but the dealers are the worst!

That sounds like the dealer didn't read the TSB, or I misunderstood it. I thought that every vehicle built before a certain date, at the very least, had to have the shield installed. Then, if the booster already shows corrosion, the booster needs to be changed as well.

f1anatic,

During the days when auto makers actually manufactured parts, or owned the companies that did, it was easy to pick a part and order what you needed. With everything outsourced all over the world, and all manufactures producing lots of cars, they probably have to get in line, just like we do. But, in the current environment nobody wants to delay notification to the public. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Question ... Is this a replacement part or an additional part that didn't exist before?

Re: Part Availability for the Brake Booster Recall

I received my letter about a week ago, and I haven't even called the dealer yet. The reputation my local dealership has for service is not the best so I figured I would give it some time instead of trying to hurry in and have this work performed. What good would it do anyway to call them and stress out about a part that I know they won't have let alone have me bring the Jeep in and then tell me they don't have the part. My strategy is to give it some time, before I get infuriated with the dealer.

Re: Part Availability for the Brake Booster Recall

Had mine in last week for the Brake Booster Recall and they ordered the parts got a call today that parts are in and to schedule a visit. When they looked at it last week they determined the booster was not rusted and they are doing the fix it parts not the whole booster replace.

I think for most of us with 2014s it will be an additional part that is not currently on the car.

Were you expecting them to have 655,354 extra parts just lying around waiting for the day that a problem arose?
That makes sound economic sense.
