Pennzoil Platinum 5W-20 with Mobile1 SAE 5W20

2014 JGC Overland 4x4
Hello members,
I would like to know if it is good idea to replace factory semisynthetic (I believe is blended) with the synthetic oil. In addition, what is the recommended maintenance intervals on semisynthetic and on a synthetic? Most city cycle.
Also, any experience with the synthetic oil by Mobil1 SAE 5W20 or Mobile1 Extended Performance EP SAE 5W20. How different in service intervals Pennzoil Platinum 5W-20 with Mobile1 SAE 5W20. Thank you. Also MOPAR filter or Mobile1

Your dealer should have Pennzoil Platinum full synth as an upgrade to regular oil for a set of coupons or just a few extra bucks.

I cut over at first oil change... but tend to change more often than the 10K or oil life reminder intervals and have been using full synth for over a decade.

You wouldn't want to go over the oil reminder or 10K interval and risk a warranty decline--even if it would otherwise be OK to do so, say backed by oil testing.

I suspect that unless your dealer is a rarity, you can get oil changes for pretty close to what it would cost you for the oil and parts....

Check your owners manual. You can get a hard copy free from Jeep SUVs & Crossovers | Official Jeep Site | Jeep, or download latest edition.

Make sure your Mobil1 variant meets the OM's MOPAR spec. There are many other good oils, but trying real hard here to avoid yet another unenlightening oil war.

I mainly use Pennzoil Platinum synth because thats what the dealer uses so I bought some for top offs. Strangely, even the Hemi doesn't appear to need much. They do have one that never was inside the kidneys of a dinosaur, allegedly made totally from natural gas. I don't frankly care.

Jeep Grand Cherokee Owner Manual.
Change Engine Oil
The oil change indicator system will remind you that it is
time to take your vehicle in for scheduled maintenance.
Refer to the “Maintenance Schedule” for further information.

NOTE: Under no circumstances should oil change intervals
exceed 10,000 miles (16,000 km) or twelve
months, whichever occurs first.
Mobil1 specification:
Gasoline Engine Oil, Oil Weight 5W-20, SAE 5W20, Standards- ILSAC GF-5
Mobil 1 5W-20 is made with a proprietary blend of high performance synthetic basestocks fortified with a precisely balanced additive component system. The 5W-20 viscosity grade is recommended by ExxonMobil for use in many vehicles manufactured by Honda, Ford, and Chrysler. Mobil 1 5W-20 is uniquely designed to meet or exceed the requirements of the ILSAC GF-5 performance standard.

Factory fill should be regular dino Pennzoil. Out of your choices, I'd pick Pennzoil Platinum. Mobil1 does not meet Chrysler's spec. That doesn't mean it will cause harm, nor should one be worried...but. M1 EP may meet Chrysler's spec, but would cost more than PP.

Technically, it doesn't. Being "recommended for vehicles that use X spec" doesn't mean it meets that spec. Amsoil and Mobil1 will say the probably "exceed" the spec, or are better than, and they very well may be. They just don't want to fork over the money to become certified in that spec. It doesn't really matter -- unless you'd have a oil-related failure while under warranty. When was the last time you've heard of that happening? That should be the least of your concern when owning a Jeep.

I've used Mobil1 in mine, and am not worried. From now on, I will probably stick to Pennzoil. Chrysler seems to be in bed with them at the moment. Years ago, it used to be Mobil.
