Pentastar exhaust manifold leak already?

I've done a few searches but haven't found exactly what I was looking for. So anyway, I've got a '12 WK2 now, traded in my '05 WK, and I'm questioning an exhaust-leak like noise. On start up the noise is more apparent, my engine is noisy in the first place (getting plugs done next week as it just hit 80k) but this noise is additional. My old WK had cracked bolts in the exhaust manifold and the leaky sounds it made are similar to this. The dealer says it sounds "perfect, but we'd like to take a look for $70 anyway". Along with the leak sound, I've noticed that in the morning I see a lot of steam coming from the grill at stop lights. More than just morning dew. So I'm wondering if maybe that this is exhaust steam from a leak that's getting caught in the engine bay?

I haven't heard or read a single thing about any of the pentastars having exhaust leaks yet. Can anyone help me diagnose this before I searched around for repairs.

Just a stab in the dark.

Yes I do have the tick sound, which is what I meant by it being noisy. And when I bought it, I had it checked for cylinder head failure.

The 3.6 pentastar doesn't have exhaust manifolds...at least in the normal sense of the word. Instead, the manifolds are cast as part of the cylinder head. What this means is that the heads and exhaust manifolds are all one unit....

Now if you suspect a leak there, I would check the bolts and possibly the gasket between the heads and down pipes

Re: Pentastar exhaust manifold leak already?

Thanks for that info! That's very interesting. When I bought the Jeep, I got a CEL the first week so I brought it back to the dealer. It was just a bad injector, but they took the entire head off to get to it. I remember seeing new gaskets on the work order list. I'm gonna bet money that somethings not seated or bolted right on the head.

That's a possibility.
