Re: Picked up my wk2. Not a happy camper

Well I took it to the dealer today. Idiot manager played it off as nothing.. Said the chrome trim can be replaced. Meanwhile someone on the forums said the chrome trim is one peice with the window. He also said the paint was buff able but also played it off as nothing major. My fingernails catch in te Scratches in the paint. So e sent us to the body shop guy. Said it can be buff out. And he said the window needed replaced. So they are ordeig a window and trim. And gonna buff. I also pointed out the hatch isnt perfectly lined up. Is that something they should be able to adjust? He said they can try.

Then I asked the salesman for any compensation for the troubles and the fact that my new car needs all this done. He had the nerve to say " well we are fixing the jeep for you"... Uhhhhhh I would hope so.... Asked him to throw in some slush mats. He said he would try.. We will see.

I would absolutely bring the slush mats up and say they are fixing an issue that should not have happened. It's not like a recal or tsb. This is an avoidable issue that they should have picked up at the time of delivery or even before.

As far as dealer POV, I don't care. I don't bring in vehocles for service unless it's a warranty issue.

Then you can't blame the dealer for not caring about you. You get what you give.

To Jdsmitty, try not to worry about it. They'll fix it, and you'll be on your way. You know not to patronize the dealer in the future. You'd be surprised what can be polished out, wait and see the final result and stick to your guns until its to your satisfaction.

Re: Picked up my wk2. Not a happy camper

That condition should have been detected by the dealer. Afterall, I assume you paid a predelivery fee? What did they do to earn it? It looks like it wasn't spent on inspecting the car.
The problem with "buffing" a scratch, or mark, out of the paint is that the paint will be thinned. That means you will have less paint to protect the metal underneath. It more than likely is just in the clearcoat, but that is there for a purpose, so if you are thinning it, there is less protection in the long term.
I personally would prefer they repaint the surface to give you the correct paint thickness. If that means painting half the car, then so be it.
The chromework will need to be replaced.

Re: Picked up my wk2. Not a happy camper

I am absolutely not a car salesman, I'm just a reasonable person who always tries to see and respect everybody's point of view. I believe in "do onto others as you would have them do onto you". If you walk into a car dealership and you're nasty and aggressive with the salespeople, they're going to be nasty and aggressive towards you. Its a two way street.

Now, obviously the dealer F@cked up his car, and they were obviously less than apologetic about it when he brought it back (yet we don't know how he addressed it with them), and thats a shame. But...life is too short to get aggravated...let your money do the talking and patronize a dealership that treats you how you want to be treated...and how you treat them. Expecting the dealer to give you $500 worth of free shit and calling the manager an "idiot" is classless and juvenile, bottom line. Get the Jeep fixed, and move on.

When you make a statement like "I don't care about the car dealer's POV", you're someone who can never be satisfied because you expect to be unsatisfied. They're just people trying to earn a living like you and me, and they deserve respect at the very least on a basic level. If you don't care about them or respect them...you can't expect them to do the same for you. If they're terrible people and terrible at their jobs, don't do business with them. Pretty simple, why waste your time yelling and screaming and making demands? Just leave.

When you approach a business transaction from this mindset, you will be a LOT more satisfied and a lot more successful...trust me.

the guy just spent tons of money on a BRAND new car, and comes to find that it is damaged... now it needs to be fixed. i would be bullshit! and i believe he has every right to be.

for you to say that if he does not like them why do business with them is a crock. he cant just return the thing and im pretty sure he wouldnt have dealt with them if he knew this situation was gonna happen.

i dont know what world you live in where when you treat sales men with respect and they respect you back, but in the real world they are out to get your dollar not make friends. and as soon as you sign that dotted line they want nothing to do with you.

and i may be blind but im not seeing where he called the sales guy an "idiot"

Re: Picked up my wk2. Not a happy camper

I cant understand how some of you are just saying go get it fixed and move on. You seem to forget that a brand new car was purchased. Not one that was to be supplied with damage. He has every right to be pissed, you pay the dealer to do a job and you are let down, you show them the damage that they didn't pick up (which should have been) and they just say, yeah we will buff it, replace this and that and you can have your car back.....I wonder if you guys would be happy if that was your car delivered to you.

He has now purchased a damaged brand new car, so shouldn't he be compensated in some way? Either monetary value or products?

Once you have signed the deal, the dealer doesn't give two hoots about much after that....Deal is done for him.....

I was respectful the whole time. No flipping and yelling. I was ready to after the guy said " well we are fixing your jeep free". I still have to fill out a review for the dealer whic will be done after the repair. I respect your pint of view but would love to see your reaction if you just picked up a brand new car had to have this done. Not to mention the couple extra trips to dealer negate alot of my savings over my more local dealer 2 min from my house. I look at it as 2 young 29 yr olds bought a pretty expensive car and the made the sale and think they can just blow me off... I Agree with the side that says I should get something in return for this BS. I didnt ask for alot. Just slush mats. I know I had a big list before but only requested those... I payed 3 grand by card. Starting to wonder if my purchase protection would help me with this unsatisfactory purchase.
