Jeep Grand Cherokee WK2 - Oil Change Indicator System

How to reset the oil service indicator

The oil change indicator can be reset using the following steps:

A. Vehicles without push-button start:

1. Turn the ignition key to ON but do not start the engine.
2. Slowly depress the accelerator to the floor and release it three times within 10 seconds.
3. Turn the ignition key to the OFF position.

B. Vehicles with push-button start:

1. Without pressing the brake pedal, press the ENGINE START/STOP button and cycle the ignition to the ON/ RUN position (Do not start the engine).
2. Slowly depress the accelerator to the floor and release it three times within 10 seconds.
3. Without pressing the brake pedal, press the ENGINE START/STOP button once to return the ignition to the OFF/LOCK position.

C. Vehicles with diesel engines (export models):

1. Cycle the ignition to the "ON/RUN" position (Do not start the engine).
2. Fully depress the accelerator pedal and keep it fully depressed for at least 30 seconds.
3. Press and release the brake pedal six times while holding the accelerator pedal pressed.
4. Perform one ignition OFF-ON cycle, start the engine and verify that the reminder has been reset.

Repeat the process if the indicator does not reset.

Great information, but that's exactly what the OP is doing and it doesn't work. In fact he/she has repeated it to the point of almost wearing a hole through the floor.

Re: Pissing me off oil message

Some owners manual had the procedure incorrectly printed. As the OP only mentioned following the owners manual rather than list the actual procedure they did, it is best someone put down the actual procedure. This covers all bases and avoids simple things being missed by making assumptions.

There are many threads on here with the same issue. It is not until someone bothers to really list the procedure that they realise their manual is wrong.

It could turn out that this is the exact procedure being used. In which case, the car needs to be punched, twice, hard.

I agree 100%. If the OP had mentioned the actual procedure being used it would eliminate some guesswork and the double punch advice could have been offered sooner.

I was thinking the same as Snuke.

I've even seen people mistake accessory position for on. It happens

Me too. That's why I wanted to know the OP's exact procedure.
