Poblem with Keyless Enter-N-Go. Need to press door handle lock button twice to lock?!

When I park the car, leave the vehicle, close the dorr, keyfob in my pocket, lock the vehicle by pressing the door handle LOCK button.
Vehicle won't lock but instead the mirror lights flash indicating the vehicle doors opening and not locking. After pressing the door handle Lock button again the vehicle actually locks. I make sure to only press the small button and not grab around the handle to the back of the handle...
This happens all the time.
Anybody?

It's a bit of a long shot however, do have a mobile phone in your pocket with the remote key when this happens? Wife can sometimes have issues when her Iphone is right next to the remote key in her bag.. My 2 cents worth.

Feel free to DM me if the dealer is unable to diagnose and repair. Thanks - Kevin T, Social Connect Team

It's a defective door handle and will need to be replaced. I could be wrong, but I noticed when I had my 2014 Summit I experienced the same issues and it seemed to happen more often after a car wash or rain. So I assume water was getting inside and messing with the electronics. It was not only after water on the car though it happened other times as well. I never had it looked at, but I now have a 2015 High Altitude and never experienced the same issue again, so like I said you just need a new door handle. A friend I work with has a 2014 Summit and his does the same thing.

I have the same issue on my drivers door, given that the troubleshooting and fix is taking apart the interior panels I have lived with it. I do find that after closing the door if I was 2 seconds or so after the door shuts it seems to lock on first try more often than if i hit right away after the door shuts.

I never hold the "entire" handle to close, at least I'm not touching the capacitive? strip on the rear of the handle, something is wrong, sure they have to replace the door handle...I'll report back here, at the dealer now.
In Canada warranty is 3 years or 60,000Km, mine has 62,000Km now and if FCA wants money from me for this I'd be more than unhappy for sure.

Ok, here is the scoop. I also think the issue only appeared after the latest Siri Uconnect or the transmission recall (4 modules were updated) . Having said that the dealer found no issue and I can now lock the door without any issue. Here is the explanation.
Upon leaving the vehicle you can't immediately lock the vehicle with the door handle lock button, you have to wait around 2s. Manual says that you can't immediately open doors after locking (some people pull door handle to check if vehicle is really locked and the 2s gives time for this "test".
I'm thinking the recent updates may have also increased the time between opening and re-locking the Jeep.

Can you guys check your driver door, press the lock button right after closing door, does the vehicle lock?

I also get the delayed locking sporadically where I stand there and have to press the button multiple times before it locks, I was going to mention it to dealer when I got my shifter update but if its something that a uconnect update made happen then I'll just leave it alone

I tried again, leaving enough time between closing the driver door and pressing the small lock button, doors didn't close, only on 2nd press.
Back to the dealer. I know there is an issue, I'm not stupid :)
I hate the feeling when the dealership is trying to talk you into a situation where you almost feel guilty about an issue, this Jeep has/had many issues...
I locked many doors but know when pressing a button twice something is probably wrong...

I've noticed that when I simply touch the chrome door handle with a finger (not the small lock button) it also unlocks the doors (turn signal lights flash) right after I close the door (and only in that scenario). Weird!
It shouldn't do anything, after all I'm not touching the capacitive strip on the rear of the door handle...

For whatever it's worth, I've had the shifter recall done and am NOT running the Siri Update. I rolled back to the version prior to the Siri Update after having used the new firmware for 3-4 weeks until it gave me problems.

I just tested this and can unlock the door and lock it within the time it takes to move my hand from behind the handle to the button on the door handle. This would appear to effectively eliminate the shifter recall from the equation on its own. That's not to say the recall and shifter update aren't the combined culprits.

Ok so I have not had an issue with this in a while now. I chalk it up to user error. I didn't know about the capacitive sensor on the inside of door handle. Now I dont press the button entering and only hit the button when leaving. All is working fine. Just don't grab the handle and hit the button at the same time.

It's for sure not user error for me.

I use only my thumb, nothing else, no press the lock button on the door handle.

The lights will blink but nothing happens. Do it again and the light blink and the doors look like it's suppose to.

It doesn't always do this, sometimes it works the first time I press the button. I never had this issue before the recall.

There is a member here who had a major concern that he had to press his key fob three times to open his tailgate, instead of two. Jeep finally fixed it.

I guess they had to stick that extra press somewhere. OP should track that member down and beat the crap out of him. :slapfight:

Did none of you guys read my response at the beginning of the thread? It has nothing to do with Uconnect software, the electronics inside the door handle are defective and you need a new handle. Take it in and they will replace it, otherwise if you're out of warranty order a new handle in your color and swap it out and be done with it....or keep talking about how to properly press the button or what software you have in uconnect ;)

Mine does this as well - sometimes I just give up and use the fob. However it is intermittent enough that if I take it into the dealer they won't find anything wrong with it and bill me (still under warranty, but that doesn't stop them - grrr).

I am sure it just needs a new handle, but they are not just going to replace it cause I say so (unless I pay for it - which is not going to happen since I have the extended warranty) ;)
