Re: Post your experiences with the TSB 18-012-11

skinny, the 30-50 issue is what bugs me. It's been driving me crazy ever since I picked up the car. Mine was manufactured in January 2011, so apparently i have the latest software already.

Going up a mild grade it becomes quickly evident that the V6 can't keep up in the current gear. So I continue to give it more and more gas until the pedal is near the floor. At which point I get a what feels like a nasty 4-2 kickdown. It's so embarrassing that I avoid several hills around my house if I have anyone in the car.

I think there are two issues. First, it seems like the engine should be providing more torque at the throttle positions I'm using. I think the ecu/dbw/whatever is confused. Second, I think I'm getting a two-gear kickdown which is only necessary because it should have downshifted about 5 seconds earlier at which point a single downshift would have provided excellent power.

I drive with a _very_ light foot. I feel like the powertrain is trying to outsmart me. I think Jeep tuned it to provide better fuel economy for people who stomp on the accelerator all day. I feel like I'm working against it the entire time. Sucks.

I'm experiencing exactly that!

If your build date is January, it may still be possible that you do not have the TSB 18-012-11 update from the factory. It was only released on February 24.

You need to examine it, see how it applies to you, take a printed copy to your dealer and explain that you are experiencing some of the problems described it in (see Driveability, Item c. among others). I found my dealer very reluctant to act on just the TSB alone, they had to be pressed. I can only speculate that it is because the TSB says there MAY be DTC codes set, and if they do not read codes, they think the TSB doesn't apply. (i.e. Some people do not understand the meaning of the word 'may'.)

Here's the link to the TSB again:

Mine was built in Sept so the new flash should apply to mine. Yep I drive roads to and from work with hills. I tend to speed up before the hills so I don't have to floor it to get up to speed. I can literally lose 8-10mph leaving me foot at the same position on the gas going up a hill that isn't that steep. Try using the cruise on hills and all you get it downshifting to make it up the hill.

Gonna see about getting mine done in the next couple weeks. How long does it take for them to flash the new TSB?

The TSB allots 12 minutes for each of two flashes, so in theory less than half an hour. But I know it was an hours-long wait at my dealer, allowing for work flow, convincing them to do it, calls to Chrysler, etc.

Which dealer in Ottawa did you go to?

The TSB states a build date of 12/16/2010 or earlier, so according to the TSB I'm not included. I'm not sure how I'd tell me dealer otherwise.

I don't want to be too specific. Let's just say the east side of town.

If you send a PM to Milous with the last eight digits of your VIN, he can tell you what TSBs or modules flashes have been done.

You should also check out the discussions over on this thread, especially the late March entries:

Did you also have the ESC one done.... TSB 18-001-011?

I did yeah. Had it done before I picked up my vehicle, so I can't make a before/after comparison.
